    Re: Keeping Secrets

Well it sounds like every single person on this thread is equally helpful in their own way. I have given several good bass away for food but those fish weren't going to make it if I threw them back. I'll tell ya why some us tourney fishermen don't wan't to see anyone eating a black bass: Countless times before and many after, the effort that goes into preparation of a major tx only to end with less than you started with. It seems so hard to put a keeper in the boat sometimes that they get about the same popularity of gold. But in all actuality, and especially with increasing awareness, eating bass isn't hurting anyone one bit. It does feel good to tell someone where to go and it actually gets them fish in the boat, but sometimes the competitive edge gets the best of us and we will guard our knowledge until the damage is done. Take for instance KVD, notice when he shows you his cb, he only lets you see one side of it. Didn't want you to know that he removes one of the eyes!
    Happy Fishing!

I dont mind at all giving out general info on say Ky lake, even keep a small website just for that-Not a forum-just info website
As for what baits sure many times many baits work, spots general locations such as main lake flats newjohnsonville-their is a discharge there by the way.
Is any hole or ledge yours on ky lake, kind of doubt it most are community holes, many of those fishing a particlar ledge seem to think it theirs, someone showed them most likly or they found it same way as others.Courtesy is appreciated by all so give it in return.
With 2100 miles of shoreline shurely you can share it with a few thousand others.
About the only thing I dont do is give exact coordinates, most with eyes and ears who listen can find whatever I describe, often containing a pic.
This taken from within sight of Paris landing entrance.

It is not another forum, just info ,pics

i have offered "the exact spot" (mouth of lily), "the exact bait" (4 inch gizzard shad) , "the exact depth" (15-25 feet) "the exact time" (as soon as you can see your rod tip) to another gentleman(peter) on this site via PM. we limited every morning and "my pattern" didnt do him much good......i felt bad for this gentleman because he will gladly return the favor of a "hot-bite" if given the chance. HOWEVER had i posted this info on the open forum it would have been standing room only and he probably would have had to start elsewhere anyway.
i will never turn anyone down on the PM , i have found that the people you help via pm (peter and two others) are eager to offer what theyve found.
pretty good trade in my opinion since all of us occasionally stand there and scratch our bewildered heads as what to do next

Never use green velcro. Nightcrawlers mistake it for maiting turf.

Just a Super post Col, really well put. In fact it's hit home with me and has me thinking. Anyone on here that knows me knows that I can get mad enough to chew bark off Hickory trees but I can't stay that way very long. Also never was much good at holding grudges either. Maybe I need to rethink this deal????????

I'm pondering, thanks for the thought prevoking thread Col.

    Re: Keeping Secrets

As far as teaching someone general fishing information I think most people willingly share that, but to get so defined and personal as to "what they do" or "where they do it" has many reasons to stay private. Consider the hard work involved, it's more fun to achieve success off your own knowledge, and most of the time you just cannot do what the other guy did anyway. It just doesn't work that way. I don't even ask that information because most of the time they "don't know what they are doing anyway"!
    Just my opinion.

The only thing I have to share right now is that on ky lake I have the best success with bass using live minnows, and immitations with ultralight.

    GREAT POST COL

I believe this site is only as good as it's worst members. I'm new to this site and I joined becuase of the information that is SHARED on here. I am a very avid tournament fisherman and I don't mind at all giving up the area of the lake I caught my fish in and the bait I caught them on because I have spent enough time oncthe water to know that I could fish a spot right behind you and catch fish were you struck out.

I apologize if my post sounded cocky like could go behind anyone and catch fish. What I meant was that anyone can go behind anybody else and catch fish that that first person didn't. Fishing paterns can change by the hour. I don't see a thing with sharing the details if my success or failure. The only thing I won't do is share my game plan the day before a tournament, but after the tournament is over I will tell all

And BINGO.... This attitude is what is making fishing go down the tubes. When fishing gets to be "hard work", I will quit fishing.

Fishing is supposed to be fun, relaxing, and enjoyable. When it gets to be "hard work", and you have to try and sneak around fishing sites telling people you have a honey hole, but you aren't telling where ect....., the fun has been thrown out the window.

I'll share info with anyone, anytime, anywhere. I just don't care. I like to see people out having a good time fishing. I'll keep a spot to myself if someone showed me the spot, and asked me to keep it to myself, out of respect for their wishes, but that is the extent of my secrete keeping.

If you want to keep secrets, join the CIA. Otherwise, if you want to fish and have a good time, do it, and share the knowledge for those people new to the sport or the area. The rewards for helping others out usually have bigger payoffs anyway.
