    Re: Keeping Secrets

I understand the concern about the sharing of info. For some, it certainly has backfired and I understand why some people have stopped sharing.

However, in my experience when asking particular individuals for help by sending a PM, they almost unanimously have been generous with information. I had significant help in the spring (thanks Elwood) for a tourney at KY Lake (was told about a spot that produced a 6 pounder in practice that got off at the boat due to my fumbling the net while trying to play the fish), and in October, I won our little club's classic at Green River Lake this year in part to reports found on this board and people who I contacted through this board. Many thanks to all!

So, the cooperative spirit is still alive among many of the Fishing.com fraternity. I've helped when I know something that is producing (usually I can tell you what's not working at a particular lake and time, my specialty). From a recepients perspective, it sure is nice to get some help.

    Have a good weekend.

    JP

I know I'm the instigator of this discussion with my post on calm waters post, and I have appologized to him for inadvertantly "hijacking" his post. However, my error has at least invigorated some healthy discussion on the original, in my opinion, the core mission of this forum. To help, share and discuss any issues that might be of help to a newbie or a pro to enjoy the art, skill and pure enjoyment of fishing. Thanks to all who post on this forum, I have learned a lot from all of you. Tight lines and good luck to all of us.

I've helped people out...I think JWP might have been one that i gave some information to....I don't care to tell the generalities of a pattern or what kinds of baits are working best for me but I'll be danged if I'm gonna tell somebody where to go sit on brushpiles that I put out....Fishing isn't "hard work"...its very enjoyable...however putting in the hours to put the brushpiles out to make my fishing trips more enjoyable is hard work.....I can understand telling somebody an area of a lake to concentrate on but I wouldn't ever expect someone to give me a spot....you can share information but expecting someone to tell you HOW to catch them is crazy....would you rather they go with you, hook the fish, and hand you the pole

    Re: Keeping Secrets

I used to give "tips/secrets" when i could catch fish, but since that **** dam deal on the Big-C I don't think I could catch a fish with a net at the bleepin' hatchery. I do remember once that I got too specific on a nighttime striper spot and I swear I had 20 boats on the spot. I also gave plenty of how-to and when-to tips by PM and sadly only had one fella(kybrim) ever give me a follow-up on how it went and to thank me. So if nothing else, when receiving a tip, please follow up with how your trip went and a thanks.

    Re: Keeping Secrets

I feel I may have stirred this pot myself with my comments about "keeping a lid on it" on a thread about where and how some fish were caught. It is what it is a discussion board where we're going to dicuss fishing and things with people on the world wide web. To each his own tell your secrets or not. Beleive it or not. It's up to each and everyone of us to take from these discussions what we may. To put our opinions in as we see fit. We wouldn't call them honey holes if they did'nt produce fish. Granted don't know of any honey hole I know of that produces fish 100% of the time. I know some very productive areas and dont mind shareing to help a guy out. Just like someone said "to ruin a guys fishin hole is to tell the world". So I for one will keep it to myself as opposed to telling the world. My choice I have that right. Send me a pm I'll answer as I have in the past. Lot of people visit this site and I for one enjoy it. I've learned from it and made friends off it and tell my friends about it, but most of us are total strangers who will never cross paths. So one persons opinion won't ruffel my feathers. It's 100% water and 10% has fish. Do with it what you may you are under no obligation.

I for one enjoyed Elnuts posts. It's really nice to see someone enjoying themselves wearing out the big Smallies on the float & fly. I myself have recieved a small amount of info on this site & have appreciated it.

Your opinion regarding the "core mission of the board" well put and correct.
