I for one enjoyed Elnuts posts. It's really nice to see someone enjoying themselves wearing out the big Smallies on the float & fly. I myself have recieved a small amount of info on this site & have appreciated it.

Rudypoo, I'm glad you said that, let me elaborate.
Bass fishing is a competitive sport pushed towards catch and release and not catch and eat. As for any fish other than the black bass I'll tell you whatever you want to know. I'll even tell ya how to fish for bass, and if ya want to get together I'm sure you could pull some more detailed info. Fishing with someone is the best way to share secrets, not a board. Call me a butthole but if the day ever comes that I find a honey hole, I'm zippin' my mouth! I might just stay on the water a few days straight and enjoy it while I can. I am competitive as a bass angler, you have to be because the rest of the big shots are playin' the game too. Do you know how many tournament fishermen have stories lined out before they get back to the ramp?, I only listen to the ones I know and am closest too and they too throw me off for the fun of it. The senior members on here have been sharing info and taking people fishing since at least '04-'05 when I was first on fishin.com.
I didn't intend to have a bad attitude of fishing. I have been reading Buck Perry and In-Fisherman collections since the mid-'90''s, and work with fishing conservation services online to pass my love for the sport/pasttime. We should go fishing sometime.

Rudypoo, here is a link that will answer some of your questions about fishing below Wolf Creek Dam.

    Re: Keeping Secrets

One of the problems with posting detailed info on this site, or any other for that matter, is that you do not know everyone who is reading that info. Could be someone wanting to take out their family for a fun day on the water or it could be a poacher.

Personally, I think you do someone a better favor by telling them HOW to catch the fish rather than WHERE to catch them. For example, you turn someone on to several spots that produced for you a couple of days ago. They head to those areas and find others fishing them. Now what? If you gave them some info such as: slow roll a spinnerbait tight to the wood, look for the wood in 10 feet of water, they prefered the 1/4 oz size in white, they can then find a number of places that will hold fish and catch fish. In the process they may actually have learned something that they can put to use the next time out.

Fishing is supposed to be fun, relaxing, and enjoyable. When it gets to be "hard work", and you have to try and sneak around fishing sites telling people you have a honey hole, but you aren't telling where ect....., the fun has been thrown out the window.

I'll share info with anyone, anytime, anywhere. I just don't care. I like to see people out having a good time fishing. I'll keep a spot to myself if someone showed me the spot, and asked me to keep it to myself, out of respect for their wishes, but that is the extent of my secrete keeping.

If you want to keep secrets, join the CIA. Otherwise, if you want to fish and have a good time, do it, and share the knowledge for those people new to the sport or the area. The rewards for helping others out usually have bigger payoffs anyway.
Couldn't have said it better myself Rudy....amen!

    Re: Keeping Secrets

honestly i would share with anyone on this board whatever i could to help out with there fishing trip but i understand some not wanting to share. for tourney fisherman and guides i completely understand, some are actually doing this for a living and if they shared everything they knew than i feel it would defeat the purpose of what they do. i try not to ask too much info when asking what someone did to have a stellar day of fishin just some of the basics.

Thanks to all who post on this forum, I have learned a lot from all of you. Tight lines and good luck to all of us.
Your opinion regarding the "core mission of the board" well put and correct.

    Question PM's vs Posts

I have always wondered how much the addition of the PM capability has decreased the number of posts, relatively speaking, (is a question that would be in the form of a post being asked in the form of a PM?) which others do not see.

I know the value of the PM and have used it some.

    Any thoughts?

I think quite a bit. I know in terms of sharing specific spots it is probably primarily used - I hold several spots for myslef but for the most I will share. If someone asks for information on Ky lake - I don't see the problem posting on the board that they are biting on ledges in the mouths of bays that drop from 10 - 20 feet, on plum colored large worms. I don't see why anyone would want to view that as top secret info. But if someone says they are going to Ky lake for the first time and don't have a clue where to start - I may PM them and tell them some of my favorite spots and maybe tell them exactly how I have been successful fishing them. I just see that as helping someone out - and trying to help them have a good time on the water. Hopefully they can have some luck at those spots, and look at a map and find others similar to that and have success there too.

Just like someone else said - the only spots I am not willing to share with someone, are spots that were shown to me by someone else, that aren't really community holes.

None of us are professionals (or at least I think). Everyone has something to learn - and that is the point of this board - to ask questions and share some info.

    Re: Keeping Secrets

I made a post on another site about getting skunked at a warm water discharge. Next thing I know there are many replies which resulted in bus loads of people coming from all over the state. No one likes to go fishing only to see masses of boats and people fishing where you "used" to fish. There are many people that never post that are looking for specific spots. I like to fish at night for stripers on C-land. Usually you wont see many boats. I remember someone posting about catching big stripers in a specific creek arm one spring and there was a swarm of boats to that creek. Boats everywhere. You had to worry about running into someone they were so thick. We opoligized to one guy that we didn't see coming. He was so close that we could hear his trolling motor and could see his cigerett light up but he never said a word. I will gladly tell everyone what technique I use and even what lure, but I wont give specific spots(stripers move alot so it wouldn't do any good anyway). I really enjoyed fishincreeks posts. He's a die hard like me and fishes similar to the way I fish also. I will be down to the big lake here in a few weeks for some night plugging(did I say that)up in the creeks(maybe main lake) if the water temp is just right.

I do think the PM system does take away from the open forums. I'm guilty of that one.

I think the stuff said in a PM is stuff that would not be on the board anyway, PM system or not. In my opinion, the PMs help. Lets folks get in touch with others on the board. I've met several people through this site. Most of those started with a PM.
