That is only half of it , If you shoot some one in self defense the wife or parent brother or who ever of the dead party can sue you for wrongful death. They most likely will not win the case but how many thousands of dollars is it going to cost you to get out of it. My cousin said it best the other day he said any body can go down to the court house and file any charge on you and you have to prove your innocence that is just not right in my book they need to re wright that law or hold up there end of it any way there end is if you state false witness you can be charged for contemp to court and if there was a just law suit you should be able to burn there @$$ for filling false witnes toward you and they should do time in jail for it as well.

That has been changed with the castle doctrine law. They cannot file suit now.

They can still file suit, and depending on the prosecutor, you might even face criminal charges. You'll win, or should I say should win, if the Castle Doctrine applies, but that doesn't mean it's not going to cost you some money to defend yourself in the meantime.

I carry my ol .22 on the boat. Not so much for people protection but to fight off any critters trying to get in the boat.

I also had the same/similar questions. It seemed that depending on who you talked to or asked, you get conflicting answers because of the gray areas in the laws. I chose to acquire my CCDW permit. There are NO gray areas in these laws. Therefore peace of mind and weapon readily available should it be necessary.
