I made my first trip to wolf creek dam this past weekend. We had NO IDEA what we were doing, but still managed a few trout.
I caught one brown (my first ever) on a mepps algia(sp?) #2 gold blade that jumped about 6ft out of the water, and gave me quite a show! I also caught a rainbow on the same bait.
Then, we went to the tall wall close to the dam, and caught several more rainbows on gulp minnows.
I saw a lot more fish than we caught, and had several short strikes. i was using 8lb test, and I just wonder if I should have brought some 4lb floro to tie on as a leader. I have always heard that trout have good eyesite.
All these fish were caught Saturday, and we blanked on sunday, but we didn't have time to stay long.
Sounds like you did pretty good for a CR Rookie, lol. 8lb is a little to heavy for trout...you would have been better served with 4lb or even 6lb....trout are very line sensitive. Sounds like a good time!
I let you in on a little secret.....fly fishing is the way to catch them trout! hahaNow the secret is out....
