Helped start a club in 70's. Was a board member until last year. Here are some things I've learned in 35 years. #1 thing is treat everyone the same. Sooner or later you will have to deal with a jerk, a crybaby, a whinner, a complainer,or someone who just wants to run everything, be firm but respectful in dealing with all members. #2 the same rules apply to everyone. For instance if you have a bucket for chips (highly recommended) and the tournament is over at 4 then at 4 remove the bucket so no one can come in late. Don't even let you partner put a chip in late. You will have to deal with the chronicly latefor the start. That can be fixed by putting a sign-in cut off time. #3 cover all the bases. For instance have a phone number for everyone to call if something like a flat occurs on the way to the lake. Only allow this to be used one time per year per person. Have a plan on how to deal with someone suspected of cheating. you probably won't have to deal with this but you need to cover all the bases. #4 have fun. Taking all tournament fees for every tournament at the first of the year is a terrible thing to do, it kills growth and kills rule #1.
