Today I took my 12 year old cousin fishing at a local pond. He is very inquisitive and was eager to learn the different techniques associated with bass fishing. However, the bite was very slow - only caught 2 on a plastic worm, so he had the great idea to run home and bring some hot dog to use as bait. I decided what the heck, fish wern't biting much anyway, so we went to get the hot dog.

I was expecting to maybe get a small cat, but nothing else. We were not there for 5 minutes before he hooking into a nice 3lb bass! I was completely surprised. Once we released it, he threw his line back out and I was teaching him how to tie some knots when all of the sudden his pole goes tearing towards the pond. I yell at him to grab the pole and set the hook - 15 minutes later he's holding a 10lb cat. He had a hell of a time wrangling that fish in on light tackle, but had a blast doing it. It was great getting to sit back and watch him go back and forth with that fish.

Good afternoon minus the heat, and he is eager to go again. Nothing better than spreading the enjoyment for the sport.
