Where exactly are you putting in at? As of today the lake is 13' Below summer pool. It starts getting pretty dangerous now up the creeks. I do know that the lake has changed alot. Alot of places have come silted in that used to not be. Also, alot of the GPS software out there shows the incorrect channel around the Walnut Creek Area. I would be carefull, but I am one of those guys that sees 3 or 4 ft on the graph and starts shutting down too.
At normal summer pool you can not "run" from the HWY 100 bridge to Browns Ford. If my memory is correct you sold your boat and are now fishing from a kayak. At summer pool you can get from the 100 bridge to Browns Ford with little to no trouble in a kayak. Impossible to do in a "normal" size boat. It is trip that would be very long in a kayak but you could do it at summer pool.
I am familiar with the area when the lake is summer pool. You can not get a regular size boat up that far into the headwaters. There are gravel bars 1-3 ft deep at summer pool and when you get way up stream they turn into riffles only a few inches deep. I have never been in that area when the main lake is drawn down but I would assume it is just small holes of water with several gravel bars to cross.
In a kayak you could probably do it, but it would be a long trip time wise. It has been years, but my dad and I have done it several times in a jon boat during warm weather. Often during dry weather we had to wade and drag over shallow riffles, but with your yak that probably is not a problem. On rare ocassions we found the river blocked by fallen trees at narrow points, which caused us to have to get out on the tree, if large enough and slide the boat over, or hit the bank and pack the boat around. If I remember correctly, it is approximately 8 miles from the 100 river bridge to Browns Ford ramp. Good luck and post information about your experience.
I was at 100 sunday, lots of water up there for a kayak.Yes i sold the Triton and now fishing from a yak.I have gone Green. The 2010 season was a bear with all that happen around Ky. alone made me slow down. With the flood in May and no ramps at Barren & Green i should have got a yak sooner.I plan on getting another yak or 2.There is a great bunch of people doing trips but not fishing. If anyone is interested in fishing from a yak i'll be there if the sun is out and no wind.![]()
Nothing wrong with going green as long as you don't become a tree hugger LOL.
I have a friend that puts a jon boat in the tailwaters of Green and floats downstream. I have seen several pictures of smallmouth that came from the water below the dam towards Grensburg. I am not familiar with the area but know there is a couple of places you can put in from the dam to Greensburg city limits.
