    big cats..moutian lions..panthers..

I had a friend show me a "game camra photo" at deer camp this weekend; from...Greenup Co., of a large moutian lion. This mountian lion was draging a very large trophy buck..8 pointer..during the night past his game camra! It looked very ligit. What are your alls take on this. He says now...that he will never walk in the woods without a large pistal on his side!!!! Im just about there myself...I've heard of a big cat in Owen Co. a few years ago; and also have heard that in Christian Co. one was shot many years ago. I also heard that Land Between the lakes has a few...that have been spotted. Any comments on this report?

We used to deer hunt a farm in Lawrence Co. The farmer that owned it said he had seen them before chasing deer and he had cattle that they had tried to down, due to marks down their back. He said they were a lot bigger than a bobcat and were very dark in color. He also said their tails were long and curved up off the ground.

We hunted that farm for years but didn't see anything. I still do believe him though.

I dont know where you guys are located. I am guessing Kentucky. Anyway , I live in southern indiana , and work in greene county indiana ( up around Bloomington (IU)) Here is a link to a confirmed sighting by indianaDNR in greene county. Word is , it is now in northern Daviess County Indiana. I have also heard and seen newspaper reports of Puma's , Black Mountain lions in southern daviess county , and recently in Pike county.

This linked mountain lion could be one that escaped from a refuge in central indiana a few years ago.

I have seen two bobcats while hunting in Morgan Co. the last ten years but never a big mountain lion.

Per KDFWR, mountain lions, pumas, cougars etc. are not native species and are open game with no restrictions. Obviously, they might ticket you if you are hunting with a 30.06 during bow season...

Now, my cousin got a ticket from a conservation officer in Mississippi for driving and looking for deer along a road through a bow-only WMA with a pistol in his glove compartment (he's got a carry concealed license). I'm not sure if Kentucky allows folks to carry a pistol during bow season while hunting or not.

I think they should allow you to take as many deer as you wish. They cause Millions of dollars of damage a year , and raise our insurance rates. I have a book on the history of Martin county indiana , and in 1936 there were 2 deer spottings in the whole year. Now their everywhere.
