Re: Bass Pro Shops Rods and Reels

One thing to always remember is that the fish dont know the difference between a high end combo and an affordable combo, a Revo or a Pro Qualifer, fish dont care, I for one use what I can afford and make the best of it, had a high end outfit once over 300 for the combo, and the reel was on sale, the rod was over 200 itself, and do you know that they do not float no matter how much they cost, it is on the bottom of Cumberland. lol lol lol

Re: Bass Pro Shops Rods and Reels

I have some BPS Extreme reels and rods and later bought some higher end stuff. The BPS stuff has been very reliable and probably is the better value if you buy your stuff at retail prices. However, I usually don't. I bought my Revo S for $50 on clearance.

NOTE: I would not buy any low-end stuff on the BPS scale. The Extreme series is fairly high-end stuff for the BPS line and I'd probably start at that level if I were looking to get some new equipment at BPS.

As far as BPS reels go, I think they are great values. I really like the Pro Qualifier reel the best in the BPS line-up. I have a Tourney Special reel that is the best casting reel I have ever had. It is my go to reel for throwing light bait, but, I can feel a tick in the gearing as I reel. I also have a Johnny Morris Gold, it is a nice reel, but not worth the price IMO. I gave $169 for mine, and it is only slightly better than my PQ's.

If I were in the reel market right now, BPS has the Quantam KVD signature reel on sale Black Friday for $49. I think that is a great value.

+1 on the revo. I have every model and the Revo S is killer for the price. I'll never buy another reel without the brakes you can pop in and out inside.

I used to like the extremes but they changed the brake system now you cant cast them.

A dealer once told me the Johnny Morris was a Pinnacle Extant. Don't remember the model, but when he showed them to me side by side they were identical inside & out other than color. I have some Extremes that I have used extremely(lol) hard for 10 years including Striper fishing in the spring. They litterally have very little paint left on them. Just had to have a little work done on 2 of them & they once again are as smooth as they were when I bought them new. They have flat been abused & until this spring I never had a problem what so ever. I like the older style with 6 pin brakes. I personally would not hesitate to buy another, but I have 7 Extremes & 2 Diawa Excellors & some spinning gear as well so I good to go.

Re: Bass Pro Shops Rods and Reels

I have purchased 10+ bps reels over the years and have been very pleased with them. They have taken alot of abuse and held up well for the most part. I have had more trouble with some of the bps spinning reels. i will say that I have returned a few bps reels to their stores when they have broken or underperformed and received store credit/exchanges. Not sure on their actual return policies but I have been fortunate the few times that I've tried returning. The extremes, pro qualifiers and a few reels and have bought on sale with combos have been great reels for me. Also tried a carbonlite this past year and absolutely love it (citica reel is nice too).
