I am new to hunting, and have what might be an idiotic question, Is there such a thing as shotgun that would be good for deer/duck/turkey? If so what are the odds I could find one for under 300?

The best shotgun is a Beretta model Augustino von Barashetti XA6. It costs less than $2,000 and it shoots, well, just the same as a Remington 870! As Rob said, the Remington 870 is as good a shotgun as is made, and it comes with various replaceable chokes so you can use it for deer, turkeys, ducks, geese, skeet, etc.
He said $300 NOT $2000?! I would say the 870 would be your best bet.
There are a few gun makers that offer special deals on shotguns, I have seen a package before, might have been a Mossberg that had a reg barrel with screw in choke and also had a slug barrell with it, they are not that pricey and are good guns. The 870 express is a great gun for the money, and you can get extra chokes and extra barrell for slugs, you want a rifled barrell with either sights ot a cantaleiver scope mt, but look around pawn shops, there are many out there to fit your needs. Hope this helps
both the remmington 870 & Mossberg 500 have packages where it comes with a barrel with two or three chokes as well as the rifeled barrel and if on sale they are usually in that price range
Remington 870 best gun for the money, by far. I own several and my life may depend on one and it shoots awesome!
The Remington 870 would be your best bet, however, Remington is offering a mondernized version of the 870 in it's new 887 - they took the solid time tested performance of the 870 and added a little modern day tech to make it the ultimate pump. The ArmorLokt coating will keep the rust off and make it last for many many years to come. It shoots all sizes of shell, which is definitely what you need for an all around gun.

Price ranges from $300 - $400 depending on which options/package you get, and where you shop.
Ditto on the 887. That thing is freakin sweet. Problem is, I dont know if barrels are interchangable on the 887. With an 870, you can also get a short barrel for home defense along with a slug barrel and a super tight turkey choke barrel.
