HB 798 SI Transducer question

I have mine mounted beside the drain plug on the step. I have seen a lot of guys mount theirs on the jack plate, and they say they work great and don't put any holes in the boat.

Mine works just fine mounted to the transom step, but if I were doing it again, I would try the Jack Plate or custom motor mount bracket first. I just don't like putting holes in a boat.

Mounted my cousins on the jackplate & it works great. You just need to make sure it has a clear line of sight all the way across the boat with motor trimmed completely down. Haven't had any issues at all.

Once I am on plane I do not have any depth reading at all. Or anything else for that matter. That is the only thing I don't like about the unit. I do watch my navionics which lets me know if I'm heading towards shallow water. To be safe, during winter pool I will keep it between the cans when I'm on plane.

you will need a high speed transducer and mount it low like any other. then get a y splitter. you will have two transducers mounted si for off plane and a reg for plane. I have mine set up like that and it works like a charm

I think you can also use a shoot-thru-hull transducer in the bilge area along with the y splitter, if you prefer.

yep that would work fine also. it's alot better to tear up a 60 dollar trans than a 200

Thanks for all the input. I went this morning and bought the y splitter and the shoot thru hull transducer. I think this is going to be the best route since im not a big fan of drill holes in the boat and I dont have a jack plate to mount anything on.
