    The "Moment of Truth"

    http://www.courier-journal.com/artic...itter+medicine

You can read more about it at the link I provided above, but the jest of it is this: A proposed final report by President Barack Obama's deficit commission warned Wednesday of a fiscal “reckoning” without major sacrifices but may fail to spur lawmakers to action without support from most members of the bipartisan panel in an upcoming vote.

The plan calls for sweeping tax changes that would affect millions of Americans, including trimming or doing away with many popular tax breaks such as the home mortgage deduction (REALLY?). It would also make deep cuts in military spending (There are pro's and con's to this one), slash the federal work force (sounds like a good idea to me), raise the retirement age for full Social Security benefits and cuts Medicare (They can't be serious?!!). It aims to reduce federal red ink by nearly $4 trillion within a decade.

This it is boys...it is now almost time to pay the piper! Thank you Nobama and all of those who voted for you in the first place!

Angry Re: The "Moment of Truth"

As someone who is watching his pension being eaten by my private insurance, and facing another year of no SS increase there are a lot more folks at fault than OBwankinobe!Lets thank the wall street big wigs that unsrupelously caused the bank and mortgage melt down.Lets also thank the defense contractors and pentagon for the unlimited spending on almost useless pricey toys that aren't doing us one bit of good. A 300 dollar toilet seat being one of the cheaper items. The congess men with their world hoping junkets that dont do anything. This includes all these sumits the pres is attending that add up to zilch for us.And lets not forget the oil lobbyists, and health care lobbies. Theres enough blame to spread around for a lot of people.

You're correct, there is enough blame to spread around....but for me, Nobama is standing at the head of the class, and I'm looking at him square in the eye's.

Go ahead and give Obama and his supporters their share of the blame, they deserve it, but don't forget his predecessor, who inherited a budget SURPLUS, and all of those who voted for HIM. Then, what do you say we quit beating each other with the blame stick, and start figuring out how to fix it? Like for starters, letting the tax cuts for people making >250k/year expire? That would raise around $700 billion. Even Bush's own budget office said that those cuts wouldn't raise revenue, and I have haven't seen any evidence that they have, have you?

    Re: The "Moment of Truth"

OK Ok lets get real. Cut government spending, cut deficit, cut national debt.

    But lets not tax anything.

I just don't see how minus 1 plus minus 1 plus minus 1 plus minus 1
    = plus 4.

Basic math explains adding two or more negatives does not create a possitive.

Bill Gtes, Warren Buffett, Ted Turner and countless others very wealthy milloionaires are calling for high taxes on the wealthiest of americans. Why you may ask? Because they realize without the security of a strong US government their millions are worth nothing.

Yet congress is threatening to shut down all legislation untill tax breaks are given to the wealthiest persons.

True patriots will have to make some sacrafice and consessions.

We have been at war for 10 years within tow countries. Yet what sacrafice has been asked of the American people? None!!! No Draft, no gas rationing, no war tax, no war bond sales, no war scrap drives.

These were common sacrafices asked in WWII.

If we want to win this war on terror, rebuild the American economy and leave our children a secure way of life we all need to make some changes.

    1) Spot buying the cheap plastic trinkets that China keeps pushing on you. Chistmass shopping the other day I saw a display of plastic puzzle games for $3.00 each. Made in china and destin for US landfills withing 6 months. China is filling our landfills!!!!

    2) Make a commitment to do something!!!! Send gifts packages to our troups overseas (and stationed here). Quit cheating on your taxes and pay your share!!! Heck if you can afford it voulentarily send a check to the US tresurey with a note to apply it to the national debt.

    3) Quit whinning that your car tax went up $2.00 and then send China $1500.00 for the latest Iphone.

I don't want anyone to starve, but this all for me attidude is just gotton out of hand. 2000 souls lost 09/11. 2000+souls lost in Afganistan and Iraq and counting.

Start being a real Patriot. Consider what propoganda you spread and really start looking at what you support.

Lightbulb Re: The "Moment of Truth"

Now let me see if I got this right. Raising the tax on the top guys will cause unemployment and stop the recovery. So there is still a tax break? It seems that I've been misled by the media again. How long has this tax break thing been in effect?

    Re: The "Moment of Truth"

Don't you think that if this administration and Congress (and others before) led by example we the "tax paying people" would be more inclined to start listening? Look at the politicians that get caught defrauding the gubment and still try and be a leader for us. Heck they get caught red handed and get off with a hand slap. If you or I did 1/100th of what they did we would be in prison.

IMO...it's way out of line to ask anything more of me!! Fix the problem by enforcing some core fundamentals like if you break the law you get penalized. Lead us by examples of how the gubment is reducing spending and I mean real examples! If we are spending too much on foreign aid then cut it back, stop being the world police, stop wasting money on pork projects. There are alot of areas to trim the fat but coming after the "average Joe" is the last thing they should do. Want people to stop buying stuff from China? Make it more appealing to have our companies stay here in the US. Does that mean tax incentives? Getting the corrupt Unions out of it? I say yes to both.

The one thing that I use daily that I learned from the Military, ROTC and being raised by a career Navy dad was that you lead by example. You take responsibility for your actions and take your punishment when you do wrong. We as a country have lost that and here we are facing a decision on how to get back on track and what are we doing? Blaming the wrong folks again! You and I did not make this mess, the elected corrupt politicians did and until they step up to the plate we will not see any progress in the right direction.

Look at what Obamy did. We as a country were in a mess when he got in and look where we are now....a bigger mess. I think that APB, Roadtoad, Mhall, Devilshorse, Pontooner, Parker or myself could have taken office and spent that kind of money! (sorry if I left anyone out) This man was given a free ticket to spend Trillions of our money all on the back and excuses of George Bush. IMO he (and his administration/Congress) didn't take the bull by the horns to handle the problem they spun him around and crapped on us. Now here we are again after all that money was spent, all those promises of how we are gonna be better off if we do spend our way out of debt, facing what we all learned in our own lives....it doesn't work!

Heck they pushed the economy to the back burner and went after Healthcare reform. That should tell us how thoughtful they were of our country! Looks like it cost these numbnuts dearly in the elections because of it.

    Re: The "Moment of Truth"

How about cutting their RIDICULOUS personal pay and Benny packages. The one thing I will give John Yarmouth credit for is he has been donating his salary to charities instead of collecting it. The man has more money than Quaker has grain so he can do it. Why can't Pisslosi and Dirty Harry do the same they are both stinking filthy honery rich. Why do I have to give up more, why don't these Bafoons lead by example.

I hate politicians............ALL OF THEM...........They are low life scumbags!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also Barry is a disgrace to the American Government and this country. He is a failure on EVERY front, he and his wife are spending money like a teenage girl with her Daddy's credit card and they simply don't care. They are gonna get what they can because they are smart enough to know that in 2012 their happy A sses ARE OUT OF THERE!

Tax breaks have not helped prevent shipping jobs to China. They are investing billions in infastructure, have a labor costs that are 1/1000 of ours and they do not need, want or buy the $3.00 plastic ball bearing trincket on the shelf at Wal Mart. Want to make jobs more attractine for companies here? Take Donald Trumps' advise and start taxing these imports that are frivorlous, defective and just end up in landfills within 3 months.
Want to know a secret? I took a temp job for a Major retailer. Sold an automotive battery charger "made in china" Sold dozens of them. They started being returned after a week when they quit working. We gave refunds to customers. I was told to cut the power cord on the returned chargers, smash the front pannel so they could not be repaired or resold and thow them in the trash. I ask why they would not be returned to the manufacturer for credit. I was told that a 40% return rate was calculated into the price of the chargers and it would cost more to ship the chargers back than any credit recieved. So as many as 40% fail in warranty and out of the remaining 60% many fail without the person returning it and others still fail outside warrenty. Result destination your local landfill.
The Tv in my daughters bedroom recently had to have on of those digital converters attched to it. This tv is really old but works like it did when new, Its a GE that I bought in 1978. When connecting the box I looked at the back and guess where it was made? Norfolk Virginia. Not long ago I thew one away (55 inch LCD sony) that was bought in 2006 made in China.

    Re: The "Moment of Truth"

    From the article....
"In the House, liberal Democratic leaders have made it clear they find most of the proposed cuts unacceptable. House Republicans, however, have been more circumspect."
Funny how that is huh? Unacceptable? Sure would like to know which topics are unacceptable and which ones are acceptable. Oh well it doesn't matter it's bull anyway....
