In what way are they asking to be special and singled out? They're already singled out in that if they acknowledge their sexuality, a basic part of who they are, they will be discharged from the military. It never ceases to amaze how any time gay people seek to treated equally under the law, it is always misconstrued as them asking for "special rights."
