Paint on a jig head is over rated.Never seen a jig that was lucky enough to be bounced over rocks for a few hours that had paint on the bottom side.I have over the years used a lot of jigs without paint and seemed to catch as good as painted ones.Good ties are important if not fishing in rocks as rocks will get them pretty soon anyway.Before I started tying my own would not fish hair jigs in rocks because of they were expensive but after starting to tie my own most all jigs I use have hair.
