I like to poke fun as much as the next guy, but when it comes right down to it, I do believe in being humble both in victory and in defeat. I will have to say that today surprised me a little. I expected to win, but I expected it to be really tight. It looked that way in the first half, as both teams were neck and neck. Then Kentucky pulled away and dominated....really amazed at Josh Harrellson's performance...and Louisville was just out-gunned. Knowles was atomic from three, but he didn't have much help today. I really thought when they went on their run in the second half that they were going to pull it within 5 and we were going to be in for a barn burner, but Kentucky was able to keep poise, weather the storm, and counter. Buckles being out on the inside was a factor, especially with rebounding, but I'm not sure that him in the game would have been a difference maker in the outcome....it would have been closer, but Kentucky just had the game today. As young as we are, we could come out and lay an egg next game against Penn though...that's the way it goes.
Was glad to see a spirited rivalry, but no thuggish maneuvers from either side of the ball this year...and no injuries.
And for the record, I hate the Cards because I'm supposed to hate the Cards...that's what Wildcats do...not because I have some notion that they are tattooed thugs or their fans are all that different from ours. They don't have anymore tatts than other teams you see...for that matter, UK last year was loaded with tatts. So what! I don't care for Pitino's personal character, but he's a heck of a coach...and I will always respect him for what he did while at UK. He's a dirty rotten turncoat for coming back to college to coach our arch rival, but stuff happens. And lastly, the Pitino/Sypher jokes got old about 48 hours after the scandal broke, so let's move on from that.
Regardless of all the back lines, this is one of the best rivalries in college basketball, and I look forward to the game every year.
We won! We beat our in-state rival and we love every minute of it...but we could just as easily have lost. Let's stay classy, Cat Fans.
Love,
Uncle Splitshot
PS. HOWEVER, I have got to say...the arena sponsored by Yum/KFC and the wearing a chicken bucket on your head thing...that's just asking for it. Comedy Gold. LOL Even the announcers were toying with it, ala "Here in the Yum Center, Kentucky's eatin good!"
