If the 898 ducer is the same as my 1197,you will have to get a 2nd ducer to run at high speed.When you start to go on plane or run faster than 6 mph ,it will create air bubbles,etc around the SS ducer causing your problem.Also H-bird had problems with the SS ducer breaking off when mounted below hull level running over 30mph.They recommend mounting on jack plate to protect it from any type of breakage and installing a regular ducer for high speed running.I did this and have had no problems at all.You will need a y cable to add 2nd ducer.You don't want to know the cost of a replacement SS ducer.
I have it mounted to the jack plate with transducer mount from transducer saver, and how much is a 2nd transducer
