Wolf creek dam

Fished last Sunday below the dam. I could not do any better then a -1- 12 lb stripper, but still caught some walley, browns including a 24 inch brown, and a lot of whites. I seen 3 stripper that would went over 100 lb's total weight. I caught my fish on a white tiny fluke on a 1/8th ounce jig head, chrome blade bait, chrome cast master w/white feather, ect. Lots of shad coming thru the gates then. The only bad part, if you want to call it bad, was the skipjack. Could not keep them off a hook. It was fun catching them for a while then I got really tired of taking them off the hook. As I said this was done last Sunday, and things could have changes, but I hope not, plan on going back tomorrow, if the weather holds out. Hope this helps!! Merry Christmas everyone!!!!

Boat, seen several people fishing from the bank, and the skipjack was keeping them very busy. I think you have to run up to the dam in a boat and float back down the river to catch the bigger fish. I could be wrong about that now.

410th/Billy could be onto something here ....

Only time I was ever sucessful at catching decent sized Rainbows from below the dam, that's exactly what we did.
We'd run the boat up towards the dam, & let the current wash us back downriver. We were using Kastmasters w/tails .... dropping them down to the bottom, & bouncing them along the bottom rocks. We'd keep the reel button pushed & hold the line spool with our thumbs .... set the hook, THEN engage the reel. Big motor was ALWAYS running (in Neutral) & the trolling motor was deployed. TM was used to keep the boat lined up & away from the bank ... as it wasn't much help in slowing the boat down in the current. Big motor was running, so that we could run back to any spot where the Kastmasters snagged into the rocks (also why we kept the reel on free spool).
It was many years ago, around this time of year, and it snowed on us as we fished (lightly) ... but, it may still be a viable method. I can't remember how many gates were open .. but I'm thinking 3-4 of them, as the current was quite swift. The "bows" were hiding behind the rocks, & scarfing down the shad/shad parts that were coming thru the gates.

Huge help guys. Thanks for the input......unfortunately have to leave the boat on this trip but will do the best we can from the shore. Heard we may get rained on instead of snow for a change!

just came back from there tonight. Fished from the bank, throwing a clown colored husky jerk [hj10]. caught several walleyes and a sauger. several people also catching them. Hard to fish, they kept turning the generators on and the water kept rising. dave

Just got back from the C-River, 29 Dec 10. We caught 4 Walleye, a a few Browns, A few rainbows, Whites, a bunch of very small stripper, and a ton of skipjack. They had 3Gen running, then some time cut it down to 2 generators. Most fish caught running up and floating back down. The Bass Pro Brand Silver buddies and Castmaster's with a white bucktail attached, caught them to day for us. We caught nothing on a Tiny Fluke but seen people that did.

If you have a Crestliner Deep V Boat, you left something at the fish cleaning station, I have it put up for you. PM me and I will see that you get it back.

Thanks for all the input as usual guys...Was a nice weekend to wet a line!

Report: we fished friday morning, friday night, and saturday afternoon until dark. Very slow from the bank. Managed one 16" sauger (minnow on a char. hair jig) and a handful of trout once we couldnt get the sauger or walleyes to bite. most folks seemed to have the same luck we did. Tossed a lot of minnows/jigs, 3" grubs, and clown colored Husky Jerks. didnt see much getting caught from the boats BUT i will bring the boat next time. seems the better way to go.........
