Electronics Technical Question

I currently have two Lowrance LCX-28C HD units on my boat. I'm wanting to upgrade the maps in these units to Navionics Hotmaps Platinum. I did some research on the Lowrance website and found out that I had to do a free software upgrade for this to work. I downloaded the upgrade from the website and installed on both. Before I invest money to purchase Hotmaps Platinum, has anyone else done this before? I'm a little hesitant at this point to move forward. I really like the 3D maps and the detail in the Platinum version. Any advice, insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Hotmaps Platinum is nice. What lakes do you fish? It can make a difference as to what is the best deal. I personally don't put a map chip in the bow unit, only the console unit.
