Hahaha.... Caught a nice one down at Ky on our annual trip. The whole time i was fighting it, I was talking trash "Who's gonna be beer 8!tch tonight", "Ahhhhh make yer own sandwiches", "Fetch my cigars!!!" (insert other low level camp activities)... only to see that big ole Drum on the end.. needless to say, I had a ball fighting it on a 6lb ultralight rig, but still ended up making dinner and fetching beverages.. LoL..

have caught a few smaller than that, but still big fish. Why since they like to hit crank baits and jigs are they considered such a rtrash fish?On the gulf one winter near port arthur tx caught one that two of us had trouble lifting out of the water, it was a black drum. The red fish everyone talks about is also a drum. Down in the bayou country they fish for gaspergus, when I seen one that prize was a drum.

The difference is that Redfish is edible, and Black Drum actually puts up a fight. I find fresh water drum fights for about two seconds and then becomes dead weight... i dont mind fightin em, but when you are after the ole green fish, it is just a nuisance. Usually salt water guys are just fishing for anything that will hit a lure (except redfish tourney guys).

Years ago while fishing for smallmouth on Otter Creek I caught one that would go 5 or 6 pounds. Thought I had the biggest stream smallmouth in the state for a bit. That thing fought hard for about 10 seconds and then became dead weight. Was still fun on ultralight tackle and 4 pound test.

We watched a guy on t6he intercoastal channel fight a fish for over a half hour, everyone was trying to figure what was on his line, from a tug boat to a dolphin, was a huge black drum, that thing didn't quit after two minutes.This fishermen was loaded for bear also, with hvy tackle.

I saw Tim Farmer (ky. afield) eat one of those one show. He and the crew said it wasnt bad! I kept one on Ky Lake last year more cause they were tearing up my crankbaits so bad just wanted revenge on one
Havent been brave enough to eat it yet though..........

the best place in the world, to get your line streched and broken by big drum. is in the head waters of lake Cumberland. in the spring they gather up there by the thousands. when you troll over top of them in the boat you can hear them grunt like big hogs. go up the lake until the water starts getting swift and fish around the gaint boulders. rig your line with a good size slip sinker and two crawdads on a hook tail to tail, and hold on. I haven't done this in a long time. since I started fishing for striper, I haven't fished for drum. but drum fishing in the head waters of Cumberland, was something that I looked foward to every spring. and I love to catch them, and the smaller ones are good to eat.

I have a buddy that eats drum all the time. I thought he was crazy until he fried one up that I caught about 5lbs. out of Rough with some crappie and I have to say that I couldn't tell a big difference, it was actually pretty good eaten.

I have a buddy that eats drum all the time. I thought he was crazy until he fried one up that I caught about 5lbs. out of Rough with some crappie and I have to say that I couldn't tell a big difference, it was actually pretty good eaten.

I have eaten Black Drum from salt water and they were decent eating. I'm guessing it's the same fish?

One of our favoriye fishing trips involved trash fish, dodn't start out that way though.Head waters of pickwick in Al.Drifting with the current fishing for SMB, instead catching drum of all sizes, along with catfish, sauger some bass a lot of small stripers. The only time either of us was fighjting a fish is when we tieng on new jigs.

what time of year, were you fishing. I would think in the spring, if so what time. like first week of april or what. I've never fished there but would like to try it sometime.
