Oh....you didn't know. The mayor requested the Colts leave at night to avoid the possibility of public unrest. I think the Colts did a great job looking out for the city and mayor by leaving when it would not incite riots.

Of course, what is defined as a riot in many other cities, in Baltimore, only qualifies as "a loud public discussion".

dj Berlin was a great place to go on leave, only draw back then was you needed a valid military ID to travel by rail. I flew in the first time on a MATS flight, and flew out, no problem. Second time was different, no flights available, so I went to go by train, but y ID card wasa cracked, no can do the MPS said.So I was due back in the zone the next day, and couldn,t make it, the MP said to turn myself in, and they would list me TDY till the next flight out. Great city, they still had check point charley, plenty of good beer, did I mention frauliens?

Awww ya Das frauleins. West Berlin was amazing with all the modern views, cars and nightlife and then right over the wall things looked like the projects.....such a huge contrast at the time. That ID card was the key huh? We were in uniform while in East Berlin so we could move around easier...matter of fact it was mandated we wore them.

A friend of mine was in the 6th inf. reg. stationed in berlin, he clued us in on the night life in berlin. I went there and we met up. We couldn't go into the eastern zone, and civies were worn.First time I ever saw a woman change into a bathing suit on a beach, using a towel, pole dancing was never that good.
