    Neighbor's house burns down.

My neighbor's house was just destroyed by fire. I saw the firetrucks come up the road and slow down and knew they were ready to turn in close by. Looked out the back deck and saw a huge plume of black smoke rising.

Mrs. Tyme and I grabbed our coats and ran the 100 yards over there to see if we could be of any assistance.

Three walls are still standing and 40% of the roof, but I think it's a total loss for our neighbor.

Local volunteer fire department was quick on the scene and performed well in their duties but the house was too far engulfed to save much if any of the structure.

There is no official cause as of yet, but it seems to me to be from the wood stove or flue. Looks like it started in the attic area.

    No one was injured.

    Sure makes you think.

That is right , sure does make you think. I worked with a guy that lost everything including his and his wifes life to a fire. He took off on a Friday because " the furnace guy is coming " and his house burnt to the ground quickly that same night. Had to have cadaver dogs to find them. Luckily his two kids were spending the night at family members house that night , or it would have been worse.

That's terrible news - I happy that family or firefighters were not hurt!

I had my chimney cleaned in September and the chimney sweep took a picture with his phone before he started . . . I don't mind saying that picture scared - the - you - know -what - outta me. We had been cleaning it ourselves but we obviously were not doing a good job - I'll have it done professionally from now on.

I check our smoke detectors several times every year and change the batteries every year - just trying to keep the family safe.

Prayers and condolences for both these families.

I'm sorry for them Rob, a terrible thing, insurance can't replace everything...
