How Are Things in Your Neck of the Woods?

I was just wondering if you all got any snow and, if so, how much?

We have lots of snow and it's still falling. I drove over 500 miles coming home yesterday. I left my house in Alabama at 3:30 am to get ahead of the storm and did fine until I got almost to Knoxville. The last 100 miles were nothing but black ice; thank God I was driving my 4-wheel drive SUV and it was a great help on the hills. My street had 6 inches of snow on it and still has not been plowed or salted; the roads department said they are waiting until it warms up "some." That may take several days if the forecast holds true because it is still snowing and they say it will continue through Thursday.

One of the executives from GA Power and Light couldn't reach my husband by phone last night and called about 10:45 pm to see if he made it safely to his apartment in GA. He talked until 12:15 am and, after he hung up, I noticed that the icemaker seemed to be refilling for too long. OMG! The water pipe had burst and I had a flood from hell rolling by the cabinets. I went to shut off the emergency water valve and discovered that the living room carpet had about an inch of water on it. I'm afraid this is going to be a very long day because it's doubtful I can find a plumber or cleanup crew who can or will come out on a day like this. I have been trying to soak up some of the water with large bath towels but it's going to take something with a lot of suction power to pick up all that water.

I have a feeling this is not going to be a great day for me. I'm already so tired I can hardly move and the work has only begun. Whether it is snowing at your place or not, I hope you have a wonderful day.

Hey Bug! How ya been? I was wondering about you and how you were doing. Sounds like it's your turn to deal with home issues.
Not much snow here in Lexington other than what was on the ground from the weekend. We had a dry fluffy snow and maybe pushed 2 inches. Heard we might get a few inches on tuesday from another storm.
Good luck with your water problem...been there done that!

I was wondering also; glad to here from you but wish it was a happier post. Sorry for your problems. We just had a dusting in southern IL but we have had cold weather for a month.

Bug,we had a leak in our water supply tube to our ice maker a few years ago. You might as well pull that carpet and pad up now. A wet-dry shop vac will help but will not completely dry your carpet or pad.

Call your insurance company too. This sort of accident is covered and the faster the water damage is taken care of, the better off you will be. You'll be suprised at the hidden damage.

Expect damage to your sub floor and or floor joists too.

OUCH! This has happened at the worst possible time. I'm almost ready to move into my new home in Alabama and was back here getting things ready and put this house on the market.

I did manage to get a plumber out here about 6:30 yesterday afternoon. He spliced the water line with a little 'thingy' that was about an inch long and can be purchased at Lowe's for about $1 or less, charged me $7.50 for it plus 2 hours labor (to do a 15 minute job). He screwed the heck out of my checkbook for $180. Oh, and he managed to break the water solenoid to the icemaker which started pouring water out into the floor AFTER he finished the other repair. I reached over him, turned the water supply to the refrigerator off and told him I wasn't in the mood for scams. I should have put my boot in his butt while he was still on his knees on the floor. He is licensed and insured and I think his insurance needs to pay for the damage he did. So much for 'honest' plumbers who really squeeze people when they are desperate for help.

Bug, we just did the same thing at Fisheaters house. I think the piece we bought at Lowes was under $10. It took about five minutes to cap the end of the copper tube. Heck, for that price you could have bought gas for us to come down and fix it. Sorry about the bad luck.

I went to my other house in Alabama in November expecting to be there for a couple of weeks but there is so much work going on that I stayed for 2 months. There was some sleet in that community yesterday but it has all melted and it's now clear with temperatures in the upper 30's.

Water was froze. Found it froze at my pond dam. The thaw last week caused over flowed and it washed the water pipe up to the surface.( Learn as I go as the new place).

Snow coming tonight in Gtown, Ky...
