Specifically non-fertile Triploid grass carp can be effective in controlling aquatic vegetation. (not common carp and not fertile). This is from publication; "A Management Guide for Ponds and Small Lakes in Kentucky".
Only necessary if grass needs to be controlled.
Hay Bill you can put black crappie in the ponds they say stay away from white crappie red ear and green sun fish , The red ear / shell crackers spawn every month in the summer time when the moon is full. What ever you do don't put in any hybrid blue gills because they will breed and there off spring will be all screwed up and stay very small. Thats why most of these pounds around here has little bitty blue gills and red ears in them there what is left over from the hybrid blue gills.. Call me some time.

Correct me if I am mistaken, but, I thought hybrid fish could not reproduce. There are hybrid Stripers in my home lake (Monroe) and they can not reproduce.Hay Bill you can put black crappie in the ponds they say stay away from white crappie red ear and green sun fish , The red ear / shell crackers spawn every month in the summer time when the moon is full. What I think is happening is if you have redear and bluegill both in the same pond; when they each spawn, the eggs mix together and cause hybrids. This could also happen with bass and bluegill but rarely does because they do not spawn at the same time.
That is a guess at what is happening with the bluegills and redears.
And offsprings of these (hybrids) probably cannot reproduce.
That is the little biological knowledge I have of this.
Hybrid bluegill are a mix of a male bluegill with a female green sunfish. Therefore about 80-90% of their offspring are males. This cuts down on reproduction. If you are going to stock hybrid bluegill you need to restock every 3-5 years. Because they have larger mouths they will eat the bass fry. Thet might not cause a problem, but since there are not as many females they don't reproduce enough to feed the bass; What I think is happening is if you have redear and bluegill both in the same pond; when they each spawn, the eggs mix together and cause hybrids. all good conversation and interesting but if a pond has black crappie in it, I heard they must have the right structure to spawn, if they dont they will not spawn is this true.
