    Congressional reform act of 2011......

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011

    1. Term Limits.

12 years only, one of the possible options below..
    A. Two Six-year Senate terms
    B. Six Two-year House terms
    C. One Six-year Senate term and three two-Year House terms

    2. No Tenure / No pension.

A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

    3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    5. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congress-men made all these contracts for THEMSELVES.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

I got that same thing e-mailed to me, passed it on. Whats going to come of it?First it needs to be studied, so a bi-partisan panel will look at it, then they will request a committe to further study it and make recomendations. Then it will come to the house, where ammendents will be tacked on to make it morew complicated, and then passed to the senate, where the first two house steps will be re-implemented, and then thenew bill [after a few changes will go back to the house. After that----forget it,that would be like chickens voting for col. Sanders

Just another chain letter. Some truth, but mostly BS. And Geo, for the life of me, I don't understand why you pay attention to these things.

    3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

Congress has been "participating with the American people" since 1984. There are still a few exceptions to the Social Security program (not all of which are in government), but Congress pays into it just like you and I. Me, I wouldn't have read an internet chain letter this far, but isn't the fact that this person shows right here that they clearly don't know what the hell they're talking about enough to make you hit Delete?

    4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    Who says they can't?

    6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

They're federal employees, and as such, they participate in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). Why should they be singled out as the only ones ineligible for it? That doesn't make sense to me. I'm all for Congressmen and -women not receiving lavish compensation, but I don't see how receiving the same healthcare benefits as any other federal employee can be called "lavish."

    7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

OK what am I missing here? What laws are they exempt from now?

    8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/11.

Huh? I mean, I understand the date thing, the email probably started circulating before the new year. Unless the author thinks that can be done retroactively, in which case his head is even farther up his butt than I thought it was. So let's push it back and say it's 1/1/12. So if a congressman has a contract with a builder for a new addition on his home, that contract becomes void on 1/1/12? Just what "contracts" are we talking about?

I didn't post it thinking any of it was true, and I definitely took it from a chain letter.

I'd LOVE to see this happen though........

    Later,

    Geo
