What weekend is it that BASS is going to be on the lake?

I wasnt down here last year when it flooded but i saw pics, and that sign over by the porta jon that says marina or something on it has a water stain halfway up it. It looked pretty crazy.
What weekend is it that BASS is going to be on the lake?
I would not hold my breath on that. The corps of engineers is in the flood control buisness and thats it!!! One year we had a spring flood and all the bass went on bed, then they dropped the bottom out of it and the spawn was darn near lost. Asked a corps guy why they didnt hold untill the spawn was over, they said they could honestly care less about that. They are there to control floods and cities downstream.
Haha...it was great fishing though! Both hybrids and LMs were off the chain over peninsula marina! The parking lot light was awesome, caught tons right there....and the dumpster...LOL!

Jordan the B.A.S.S fed nation southern div, will be held there April 10th thru the 15th, and yes MKM the corp has already agreed with B.A.S.S to have it by pool before the start of the tourney. This had to be finalized before they would bring the tourney here, Glasogow won out over KY/Barkley and Cumberland, as Glasgow put up a better incentive to get this here. Yes this is a risky move but money TALKS.
Ok thanks
Well I will have to see it to beleive it. Sounds like a dangerous move on the part of Glasgow. So they bring the lake up early, it floods and cant get it back down by a reasonable time. Ruins the revenue for a whole season. Could force campgrounds and boat ramps to close. Doesnt seem like one weekend could bring in more money than most of the season, I may be wrong though. Hopefully mother nature will co-operate, but I wouldnt count on it.
Sounds like another possible high water year at Barren...and catching hybrids and lm's on parking lots.Well I will have to see it to beleive it. Sounds like a dangerous move on the part of Glasgow. MKM, i am quoting what was said at the last Ky B.A.S.S Federation Nation meeting in Oct during the state championship, as the possability of low water was brought and that is when we were told that THE CORP will bring it up, if you do not belive me dont, I am just passing on what is was told, yes if it floods it will stink, if if dont rain it will stink, The tourney could not be held on Barren if it was at normal pool for April, as not enough surface area, I would have rather seen it on Lake Cumberland, but Somerset did not put up the cash, and incentives, the State of Ky also had a say in this too, it will bring a lot of money to Glasgow. I was there at the meeting you were not. If you do not belive me call the KBFN pres.Yes we are very concerned that the lake could flood. Several lakes and communitys had a chance to get this tourney, but Glasgow won. Now we will just wait and see. And if it does flood, then the parking lot bite will be on.
I have no reason not to belive that was said. If somebody from the Corps of Engineers did make that statement to KY BASS and they passed the information along to its members it was a misleading choice of words. To the best of my knowledge the Corps has no way to create water and raise the lake level. They can control the outflow but mother nature controls the inflow. The Corps can start holding water earlier than March 15 and that will bring the level up sooner than normal but only if mother nature gives us rain.
Buy April 10 the water could still be in the channel or it can be in the bushes. Hopefully we have normal rain fall and things work out for the best way for the Corps and KY BASS. For the Corps to claim we will bring it up;they should also state that mother nature has control on the inflow all we can do is regulate what we already have in the lake.
It was not Ky Bass but B.A.S.S, yes the corp cannot control the weather, but they said that they would start holding it earlier to get it to pool by then, but if mother nature does not coop then I quess BASS will have some problems. I still question on why Barren for this big event, do manily to the fact that it is a flood control lake and very unpredictible,I do not think that this was really though out, if B.A.S.S requires a certain amt of surface of water to have these types of tourneys. I fished a fed nation south div in 2008 at Santee Cooper and that lake was 4 ft low, and with an avg depth of around 5/6 ft when full, it was interesting, I broke my t motor off due to so shallow and severl boats lost lower units as it was a very dangerous lake at that time. So it sometimes seems that MONEY talks and they have these divisionals where they get the best deals. I know that Barren is very unstable in the spring, I have lived here all my life and have seen it go from winter pool to 25 ft over summer pool in a few days, like last year and also back in the 80's it was in the parking lot at the state dock. I hope that this will work out, and it goes well, but with the way the weather has been in the last few years, it seems dicey.I for one would have thought lake Cumberland would have been the best choice, as it is has the surface area and also is not a draw down lake. But It dont matter to me now as I did not qualify this year.
In my opinion what it really boils down to is BASS is a business. If lake X puts together a better $ package than lake Y BASS is going to choose lake X every time. I am sure there is a size limit on required surface area to hold an event. I have no idea what the number is but to be creative I will make one up. Lets say lake Y is 30,000 acers and located near a heavy population area with many motels and resturants for BASS and the people who show up for such an event. The minimun surface area is 15,000 acers but lake X is only 12,500 acres in a somewhat rural setting and everybody will have to travel a little farther to reach a motel and eat. The town of lake X puts together a package that gives any BASS member huge discounts to motels, resturants and shopping plus throws in some money to help offset the cost of the tournament. Even though lake Y has an made a similiar offer it was not as good of a package I believe they will choose lake X everytime.
In my opinion BASS puts the business side of the sport first and the angler side second. They run a business and do what finiancially is best for the business and that is what they should do as business people. If the fishery is a good place or bad place to fish that is somewhat irrelavant if $ is there to draw them in.
Look at the Classic that was held in Pittsburg a few years ago. I find it hard to believe that BASS did not realize that the Three Rives area was going to be a battle of who would catch three to five 12" fish a day. They set the record for lowest classic weight but I also bet BASS hade huge $ from Pittsburg to draw them there.
I think BASS is a good organization that promotes the sport of bass fishing in a positive way espically to the younger generation which is the future of bass fishing. I just do not like how they handle some of the business decisions that they make as to where and when to fish...However I do respect their business descisions. If they do what is best finanically for BASS they will survive even though I may not like thier descision. Please do not take this reply as a bashing of BASS because that was not my intention.
