    Anyone worried about Egypt??

They are having serious issues, yet no one here has mentioned it.

Personally, the SUEZ canal, in Egypt is a CRITICAL waterway for our lifeblood......OIL.

A few news stations are reporting if this is not put down pretty soon, the price of gas and oil could double within a week.

NOT thinking that is going to happen, but ****, 7 bucks a gallon.. HOLY CRAP.

I should have used some different words.......I don't mean PUT down like in a military crackdown.

I'm not too sure what needs to be done here, but I'm really concerned that there are reports from Egypt that the Muslim Brotherhood is looking to gain some power.....that would be UGLY......

And prices for Crude in overnight trading is up 4%....

    we will see.

    Re: Anyone worried about Egypt??

The full impact of what's going down in Egypt hasn't sunk in with me yet....I've never kept up much with opinions, views and politics from over seas. I know ABC News really put it at the front of their news program tonight....it is a big deal. ABC News mentioned how strong of an allie Egypt has been to the United States and our fight against terrorists, etc. and what effect all of this might have on our relations with Egypt....like I said, I guess I'm not worldly enough to grasp hold of the full monte and what's going on, what's happening and what some of the ramifications could be. I know the Dow Jones took a nose dive today because of it, the largest nose dive in six months.

I'm interested in reading what the rest of the guys on the board think of all this...I know APB is a fairly smart feller about over seas stuff....maybe he will chime in.

    Re: Anyone worried about Egypt??

    Yes Geo...I am worried...

Democracy Uprising vs Critical Ally Government...with Barry at the wheel. Great!

Critical U.S. Ally in the Middle East that controls the Suez Canal shipping lane...unrest...a leader who wants the government to resign amidst the uprising, but has made no mention of himself stepping down...because he isn't going to. They are going to try to beat down the revolution and keep the power he has had for the last 30 years, IMO. Turning off the internet and cell phones...wow...

I read that they receive $1.3 Billion in military aid annually from the US...second only to Israel. They have received $30 Billion in economic aid since '75. The US wants/needs Egypt on our side...yeah, for the War on Terror...but more importantly for the reason you mentioned...that artery for the life blood...

The simple fact is that Middle Eastern unrest = Higher Crude Oil Prices. If this doesn't get quieted soon, you are right...$90/barrel crude will be $110...$120...$130...$140...where will it stop? I'm telling you, our economy can't handle $4.00/gallon gas again right now. It affects EVERYTHING. It will put the economy right back into a nosedive.

I'm afraid that it could end up a lose-lose. Even if the Government of Egypt squashes back the movement, the unrest will continue...but if a new government is established, you have to worry about some other nutcase at the wheel. Either way, uncertainty yields higher crude oil prices, because of the nature of the market.

Not good...any way you look at it...

SO, let's put a halt on new drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, protect the Spotted Owl and Polar Bears, and we'll get to that whole Bakken thing when we get a little time...no rush, right?

Other things scare me............RIOTS in Tunesia, RIOTS in Jordan.......

    WHATS going on.

On a very remote positive note......are these folks rioting for more DEMOCRACY?? I doubt it.

Fox News is talking a lot about the Muslim Brotherhood, and their ties here. The opportunity for extremism is pretty **** great right now.

Jordan and Egypt just signed a peace accord with Israel........HM.

    Re: Anyone worried about Egypt??

    I don't know...

Egypt produces about 700K barrels of oil a day, but consumes most of what it supplies....so the crude oil prices jumping has to be based on fear of unrest around the main shipping lane, and fear of some kind of "domino effect" with uprisings/unrest in the Middle East....

The prices were going to climb anyway...I think T.Boone predicted $120 this year...but he didn't see this Egypt deal coming either.

It needs to go away. By Monday. We need to send in Chuck Norris.

Your getting a preview of what many believe is inevitable here.

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable. JFK

Yeah....I agree with you. When I saw that on the news I knew it wasn't a good thing for the U.S. to be attributed with...Geesh man...I'll probably be watching as much news as I can on these events. What ever you all hear from reputable news sources please post it here.
