    Re: Clearing my conscience........

My take on your experience is that you actually improved yourself. You didn't just sit back and let the money roll in. Certain requirements were asked of you and you fulfilled those same requirements. Good for you.

I also benefited from a government program, The G.I.Bill, that enabled me to graduate with my degree in pharmacy and thus started my career. The tax payers more than got their money back from that investment in my education. I served in the army from 1970 to 1972 and I hope most of you can remember that the war in Vietnam was pretty hot at that time. Was I scared? Dang right I was. But I had no money to finance my education and I rolled the dice that I would survive my army stint and return to college to complete my education. I was never deployed overseas and I don't want anyone to think I'm claiming to be a Viet Nam combat vet.

It's always good to clear your conscience

There is no doubt that good individual results can come from government programs.

That being said, I still hold the the firm belief that most, if not all government programs can be administered more effectively and efficiently by non-government - i.e. private sector - entities.

The VA is a gov. program. Pell grants are also the same thing, some educational programs do show results, IF the reciepients work at it. My daughter had student loans for part of her years in college, she paid them off first. My first mortgage was VA, and it wasn't as easy to qualify then. I havn't used any VA med. benefits, my insurance covers me well enough, but thats all some vets have, Thyere are a lot of badly run, thoughtless programs that can be done awau with.

So now you're balming the government for sending you to school?

That's it, I want my share of the money back
