Thanks anglers for the info.I hope a few of you make it for the tournament or if not too fish but too see the show.Drew Gregory designed the Coosa,i havn't meet him yet but from what little we talked seems like the real deal. This sport is just getting started on fresh water.I have been learning more and there are some big salt water events.I plan on staying away from them. Not sure how many miles of rivers & creeks the USA has but know i won't run out of new places too go.

If you are looking for places to put in DON"T put in at the old Switzer covered bridge and try to make it to the bridge on US460 close to the forks at normal flow. You will be carrying your gear most of the trip. For some reason I kept thinking I was gonna hit deeper water until I figured it was closer to the takeout than going back. My buddy and I hauled about 300lbs of gear and canoe about 6 miles.

    Re: Elkhorn creek

Elkhorn has monster smallmouth (5+ pounds), channel catfish, redeye bass, perch not to mention big as* bluegill.

The big smalls are best caught wading. even if you are in a canoe or (what I use a plastic coleman crawdad) small jon, get out of the boat in front of or below rapids and throw medium diving cranks or rooster tail into the rapid. For live bait use a nightcrawler right into the rapid and let it free float in the rapid. The strike in the rapid will be very fast and be ready they will let go just as fast. Deep channels with good current also are great spots. Try to throw upstream to the bank (while you are chest deep in the middle) so the bait is presented coming from the bank at an angle downstream. When the bass are slow late morning, afternoon target the redeyes with redworms, small spinners, curley tail plastics off rocky points and shores (you will also land a few really big bluegill). The channel cats are caught with nightcrawlers slowly pulled on the bottom in the same areas the smalls like (moderately fast channels, deep holes). Keep the nightcrawlers moving, don't think that if it sits there long enough something will eat it. No bite in 5 min? MOVE!! to another spot.

Fishing Elkhorn (fishing in general) is more hunting than most people realize.

As others had mentioned about CanoeKY, Nathan and Allison, the owners and their staff are awesome to work with a get information about fishing and kayaking. They will be here for the festival and tournament June 4 & 5th. And yes, you get a free year of free shuttles if you buy a kayak from them. Stop by to meet them.

Terry try out spider jigs and crawfish cranks. I have caught many keeper bass on both wading and floating. I have also caught some 5lb plus drum on the crankbait on occasion fun on light spinning gear. PM me and I can tell you where I go in and what has worked for me.
