Put in about 8:30, air temp around 38 degrees, water temp 36 degrees. Put in at Moutadier. Lots of ice on main lake, unable to leave the Moutadier Recreation Area until around 1:00 due to 1/8"-1/2" sheets of ice in both directions. Lots of dead shad everywhere. Fresh kill too, some were still floundering. Could not buy a bite. I guess it is still too cold and the shad kill made forage quite acccessible. The ice finally melted enough to get away from the 15 other boats that were stuck in the area, but the shad were dead everywhere. Saw as many as 50 floating in one cove up past Briar Creek. It was a beautiful day though. Water temp got to around 37.7 degrees and air temp was in the upper 40's. Was marking bait balls at around 7 ft with the occassional bass mixed up in there, but no activity on the surface. The ice was kinda crazy. Never seen it like that before. People would get up on plane and then immeadiately shut down once they got to the ice. You couldn't see it until you were almost on top of it. Three or four more weeks outta have 'em biting more.
