    Re: Anybody Powder Paint?

Make up a place to hang you jig after you do step one. You will need a pair of needle nose pliers for this the longer the better.
    1. Put your jig's in a oven and set the temp to 300 Degrees bake your jig's for 15 minutes.
    2. Remove one jig at a time and dip it in the powder now this is were you need a place to hang them. After you get them all done put them back in the oven and bake @ 350 for 15 more minutes this will let the powder flow and bake the powder to the jig making for a real durable finish that will last.
If they look dull when you dip them don't worry because when you bake them they will get all shinny again but be warned DO NOT go above 350 or you will burn them.

You can get a small $30 toster oven from wally world to do this. Gas ovens don't work well with this just make sure it has a Thermostat..

One last tip to help you if your making your own jig's is to use a wax candle to smoke you're mold,, You will have a lot less redo's and sticking..
Don't use a torch man it is way to dangerous the last thing you would ever want on you is molting lead.
be safe have fun and good luck if you need any more info just drop me a PM.

How do you keep them from dripping in the oven? When i bake mine for that long they drip off the head.

I never had that problem. You may be using too much heat. What brand of powder are you using?

If the paint is thick you're using too much heat. I usually use my propane heater in my garage or I put a heat gun in a vise to heat my jigs. I take a pair of long needlenose and hold the jig about ten inches in front of it for a count, the bigger the jig the more time it takes to heat up. Crappie jigs just take a couple seconds on each side before I dip them. Bass jigs might take 5-10 seconds on each side. Shake the powder paint after every 3 jigs to keep it fluffy. I wouldn't build a fluid bed unless you're going to do a lot of jigs and are buying paint by the pound. I don't bother baking the jigs as I usually lose them before they start looking bad anyway, baking does make them a lot more durable though.

Downwind, that video was great but it reminded me of this one:

I watched on you tube guy used a heat gun turned up on his bench and held it with a pliers, after dipping he put it back on heat gun to get a glaze. He did say like the others before baking was the way to go

I use a candle to heat my jig head. I heat it up dip it in the powder shake off excess powder and reheat jig and hang. It is simple and smells to work for me.
