Question Fishing in Canada or Michigan

I am planning a family vacation. Part of it will include fishing but I am taking my wife and niece and they will want to have some things to do. Any recommendations for area, resorts in Central Canada (above Michigan, Indiana and Ohio) or anything in Michigan?

    Take her to north michigan

Canada has nothing to do but fish
unless you went to toronto. fishing not so good

I have been to lake of the woods, Canada
great fishing, just not much else. If she wants to look at a lake then OK

Michigan has more options , Shopping and restaurants

    Have a nice vacation

Try doing some research on what to do in the Detroit area. Lake St. Clair is right next to Detroit and is one of the best Smallmouth Bass lakes in the country. If you want to spring for a guide for a day or 2, try Art Ferguson. See more at http://www.artoffishing.com/home.html

Art guides St. Clair from April - September and then guides FL waters in the winter months. He is an FLW pro with lots of knowledge. He's a great guy as well.

I second the lake St. Clair idea as well. I don't know the guide that was mentioned. But I have fished the lake several times with astounding results especially in June/July/August. you not only have Detroit but also Windsor which is a great city especially for shopping and entertainment and food...If the females are away I would reccomend "Bazookies" I think thats how its spelled....You'll enjoy yourself hahaha.

I will check out Lake St. Clair. That sounds promising.

We did a trip near Traverse City a couple of years ago and had a good time. There are a ton of small lakes there. But with my niece coming along; something near Detroit sounds more promising.

check out the western side of lower michigan. We took family vacation and stayed near St Joseph. I took my boat and fished in the mornings at a few of the smaller lakes in the area off the st joes river. The wife and kids spent time at the beach (suprisingly nice sandy beaches on lake michigan) and also in Dunes state park. St josephs had nice restaurant and entertainment.

Have fished upper michigan around Hail or Hale it's pronounced hell. look for the streams that look like a ditch for some big ol' rainbows. You'll be amazed at the trout that swim those waters.

Sandusky, Ohio has Cedar Point amusement park, one of the best coaster parks in the world. It sits on Lake Erie & there are walleye, perch, smallmoth & lake trout charters out of Sandusky. Really nice place to visit in the Summer.

Re: Fishing in Canada or Michigan

I took the whole family to Lake St. Clair for the first time a couple of years ago in May and had a blast. We stayed north of Detroit near the lake. My son and I fished and my wife and daughter did sight-seeing during the day at places like Belle Island, Henry Ford Museum, etc. They didn't go downtown Detroit except to drive to Belle Island.

Also a little farther south...Port Clinton on Lake Erie might be worth considering.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for all the input. My wife does not want to be near Detroit. She wants to go up to the north of the lower pennisula.

One of the follows on sight has given me a lot more feedback. Anyway we are still looking for a place. I will let you guys know what we do.
