Re: Fishing Shows on VERSUS Network- Direct TV

    Thanks Buddy,
I have Directv & knew I had Sportsmans, but did not know I had Versus so it was not on my favorite list. I just added it.

Does anyone now what resolution the satellite providers are? Becareful, they can say HD, but still only be in 720i!
For the record I love all the fishing shows previously mentioned here, but my all time favorite fishing show that still on is the Spanish Fly!!
I've got a background in electrical engineering and that tells me just enough to say many factors are involved in what your picture will actually look like.

From my experience I can share-

a- I have a 32' HD TV that is only 1080i. I believe this means a 720P picture is upscaled to 1080format. Regardless, the picture is outstanding and I can not tell any difference between my Blueray player hooked to that TV and Direct TV. Both are outstanding and I'm very satisfied

b- I have a 50' HD Plasma that is 1080p. Before Insight 6.10 I could read several local stations in HD at either 720p or 1080i. It was clear that these were not 1080p pictures and I could visible see difference between them and blueray player. Both good but the realism difference was noticable. Now, we Dirct TV on that plasma I think I can still see improved picture quality with blueray but gap vs. most HD recording on Direct TV is not huge. I am very impressed with the directTV picture quality. that is not to say that Dish is not as good. I did look at my Dad's Insight HD DVR unit in Lexington area a few weeks ago and after review decided to roll the dice an go with something new. My recievers that came from DirectTv are better then what my Dad has; note his box may not be the latest technology anymore. I don't want to bash Insight but I saw no reason not to try something new.

Let me tie this back to fishing The fishing shows in HD are just amazing. You can see details that make the shows more informative.

I don't have a contract. Not sure about the promotional deal, the only special I got was three months of a bunch of HBO, Showtime etc. movie stations for three months. One thing I can promise you, Insight will never, ever recieve another dime from me. I will do away with televisions before thos monopoly owning con artist get one penny!

The WFN is the bomb, but sadly I do not have it. I refuse to pay more money for TV than the absolute basic package.

I'm going to do away with paid dish/cable sometime soon as soon as I can figure out live sports.

About 1-1/2 to 2 years ago I switched form Insight to Dish. I was one of the first people to use their new satellite. It is funny to see my dish pointed in an entirely different direction than the other dish network dishes around me.. i get guys all the time tellin my dish is aimed wrong. Anyway, the picture quality in HD is much better with dish. I have a 37" Samsung 1080p 120Hz TV. This picture is not as good as my BluRay, but is good enough to make me stay with Dish. In additiion, the reciever format is light years ahead of Insight or DirecTV. The only down side to having dish is you can lose signal if it gets covered in snow or you get a really bad storm.

I would be surprised if all three providers don't upgrade recievers every 6 months or so. a bunch of my neighboors just switched dish providers. I ask why and they say they wanted to upgrade recievers as they constantly get better. I don't see how a reciever can get much better then the one directtv provided me last week.

ESPN will be telecasting the Classic as well as the Elite series from what I've read. Saw the schedule for the classic posted somewhere.

My favorite shows are The BASS Pros, Gettin' Schooled (FINALLY some new shows there), Classic Patterns, Lost Lake, Hook 'n Look, Strike King Classics, and Pro Journal.

Monopoly?? How can you say Insight is a monopoly when we're discussiong the various television providers services available. That doesn't sound like a monopoly to me. Read the franchise agreement, anyone is free to build a paralle cable system in the public right of away. lnsight employs hundreds of people in your commuinty. How many does Dish employ?

They buy out all of their competition. Happend to my original cable company out here in Bullitt County. They bought out a small provider called Inside Connect. This small company offered better channels on their expanded basic package plus had great rates for their phone and internet service

The very day that Insight took over my bill went up and I lost a lot of the channels that I previously had (I could get them, but it would cost more). Insights customer service is horrible to non existent and the techs that came to my place were not as bright as the 75 watt light bulbs in my kitchen.

As for Insight employing hundreds in my community, not likely. I doubt they have even 90 out here. I would say Insight would not be in the top 20 employers in Bullitt County and I don't care if everybody in the county but me worked for them, they will not get any of my money.

Educate yourself before your critcal of a company that DOES employ hundreds of people here in Lexington... READ your your community's franchise agreement so you'll know what you are talking about next time!
