Reelfoot Guide

Hey,

I have a buddy looking for a Reelfoot guide. I had a couple ideas, from other friends who've gone in the past, but those have not panned out. Evidently my other friends have not used a guide in a LONG time.

They are mostly panfisherman. Looking for gills or crappies. Also, looking for times to go.

Any ideas on guides down there that you've used would be greatly appreciated.

not sure on a guide i would say google it but no one that i know that has been and goes over there uses a guide should have no problem catching gills or crappie reelfoot is full of them but watch out for the snakes they are everywhere there.

Go to Crappie dot Com, register and go down to the Tennessee page. There are pages for a lot of states toward the bottom of the site. The people on the Tennesse page should be able to provide several names. Nothing liike information from the local folks.

I've been going for years, and IMO...March is the best time to go. April is when you can hit the spawn, but the weather and wind down there can and WILL have you sitting in a room drinking beer, wishing you could go out on the lake. March is cold, but the fish are very predictable this time of year, and can be caught pretty easy if you stay in the deep section of the lake. I have never hired a guide so can't help you there. Blue bank is nice, probably one of the better ones on the lake, but if your taking your own boat, I would look into renting a local home. They are priced just as good as any resort, and your stay will be better. PM me if I can help you any more.

Are you talking about bluegill or crappie? I thought the bluegill spawned later, like in mid-May?

May is perfect for gills, and they are HUGE down there. March is the best time to get on the crappie. June is a waste of time, it will be a ghost town down there, unless you like to catfish, the lake is dead until the fall rolls around. I'm not saying April can't be good, but the wind off the river rolls in and make it very difficult to fish. If you can time it just right, and the fish are spawning and up around the cypress trees or lilly pads, you can have a time, but hitting it just right is hard. March is more consistant for us, we have been going down for about 10 years, and have been all times of the year.

Something else to condsider, is check the lake levels before you head down. With the huge drought we had last year, and the work that they were doing on the dam, they were pumping TONS of lake water out every day. The lake from what I hear is still really low. Last year when we went, a bunch of the ramps you could not even get to. I know they are still fishing the lake, but hear its pretty tough to navigate.
