Hey Art I didnt know about the 7.5 legnth in the rod until I looked it up. I went to a local bait shop and when I was there an owner was showing me this short rod for snagging spoonbill and it was as stiff as a pool stick. I thought to myself what in the world are you going to do with that, and she told me as soon as she gets them in they sell pretty quick. I also wanted to point out to anyone that is wanting to do this at meldahl to not waste your drive up there because there is a hydro electric plant being built. The segment that was aired on snagging at meldahl where the guys are fishing is what we called the snagging hole and it is around 30 foot deep there. Since the construction started they moved the access to the beach area, no where near the rocks that you saw, and it is shallow chunk rock here and there and no structure any where. So if there was anyone wanting to travel to try meldahl it might be a waste of time.

It's probably the same one I have. It's black and has maybe 4 line guides on it. It's about like a pool stick. Mine is made in TN I believe, and I think it's called the "Meat Stick." You have to have a stout rod to drive those hooks in.

A lot of guys make their own rod out of a long broom handle or dowel rod. Works just as good.

I used to hammer the spoonbill back in the day below KY Dam, when the limit was 15 a day. The current had to be just right, and you had to know what to look for. I always fished the Marshall County side. I haven't been able to fish that spot since they started building that bridge. I keep thinking it will open back up soon and I can relive the glory days, but with a smaller limit now.
