I think I'd go with Berkley as well. See the Berkley Shock at

Berkley lightning rod shock. i have a baitcast setup and am going soon to pick one up to replace the spinning rod i snapped yesterday at mcneely. probably going to add a few more baitcasters over the summer as well. im no pro so i don't see any reason to spend a bunch of money on rods and reels when i can be just as productive with the lightning rods. plus they are super light. so they are very comfortable to fish all day.

Ugly sticks are grat for bass. But when it comes to bigger fish, I use the power plus rod at bass pro. I would reccommend it for sure, best $25 pole i ever bought.
Shimano Clarus $69.99 with a lifetime warranty.
For this kind of money, I don't think you can beat these rods. If they still have the balancing kits available for them I'd include that as well. I highly recommend the Bionic Blade with a blalancing kit.
BPS Tourney Special......good rod!
I picked up a nice BPS rod on ebay for $30 including shipping. I wanted a decent rod for throwing in the truck and going to the pond and it seres the purpose very well.
I had a bass pro shop rod and I sold it. I personally don't like the power hump they have on some rods. If its a rod without the power hump then it wouldn't be bad. I have also seen the Field and Stream rods at Dicks and they look nice. Also you should check out Sportsmans Warehouse they have some low end Shimano stuff thats really cheap and good quality for the money.
