Do you have to repay your homebuyer tax credit?

If you claimed the credit for an eligible 2009 or 2010 purchase, you're likely in luck. If you claimed it for 2008, it could be going back.

When this hype was al over TV, do you remember anybody talking about paying it back? I guess the good news is its an interest free loan for $7500 for 15 years.

    WOW. Uncle Sugar strikes again.

Re: Do you have to repay your homebuyer tax credit?

I was house shopping for my first home in 2008. The mortgage companies were making it very clear that the tax credit had to be paid back and even laid out the payment schedule. I never qualified because i bought my house a smidge to early, so i dont have to worry about it.

BIG difference between pubs and DEMS

In 2008, a REPUBLICAN president signed off that this tax credit was to be paid back over 15 years. in 2009 and 2010, and DEMOCRATIC president gave people a HANDOUT..........

    hahahahahahahahha.

FROM the IRS Website.....published in 2009......this is NOT new NEWS.

This is just hilarious to see you put this spin on it. How about a "fair and balanced" account:

A Republican President, a man whose party is supposedly all about cutting taxes, gives people a LOAN disguised as a tax CREDIT. Then a Democratic President gives people a REAL tax credit, and you call it a HANDOUT.

    Gotta LOVE it.
