for Elkhorn creek the main forage year round is crawfish. So I would throw a little 1/16 or 1/8oz jig, or a similar weighted shaky head with a zoom speed craw, or possibly a tube. use natural colors.

Thinking about hitting up elkhorn in frankfort this Saturday, what should I be throwing this time of year?

Personally I don't have much luck with crawfish imitators until the water warms up and the little buggers themselves get more active.
My choice this time of year is a small suspending jerkbait like an X-rap, as Magik said, in natural colors.
Waded the Dix River today (first time fishing it). Water looked great and it reminded me quite alot of Elkhorn. I am thinking about hitting Elkhorn on Saturday myself. I was in waist deep water all day, threw everything I had in the vest and didn't have any luck. I figured if I caught anything today it would just be a bonus as I didn't know if the area I was fishing was worth while. I can definitely say that after this cold weather it was nice to just be out in the water, take a deep breath, and have the warm sun hit my face.
Wish i could go,family coming down from Mi.But if Canoe Ky calls & tells me my Coosa is in i'm going...........
might get a free minute and try it today. will be fishing in georgetown and will let you know how it goes if i goes.

You may want to try a hellgramite imitation. I used to wear out some fish on those on the elkhorn.
