Plus, I tend to think that "lowering property values" is just a way for some ******* to try and force you to do what they want.

So you would rather do what you dang well please, and have a slum across the street full of people that never mow the yard, leave trash out in the yard, park in the yard, sell drugs, smoke crack, etc.? That's the reason for the HOA - to have a set of rules and guidelines for suppressing such activities as these. Some HOAs do go too far with their nitpicking, but some really just serve as a safety net to be used as tool to keep the trash out. My wife and I bought our house based on the neighborhood - in Louisville, the quality of the neighborhood is more of a selling point than the house itself.

Well most places already have ordinanaces against that and I can promise you if there was a crack house or a drug dealer living by me they would be turned in.

I really couldn't care less if someone parks a car in their yard. I had my boat parked in the yard at times where I used to live. I also like to think when looking for a house, I would look around the neighborhood to see what type of things go on and what type of people live there.

I would think this bigest hastle with parking a boat behind the house in most subdivisions would be backing it through some very tight places. I have to be really careful with mine backing it into the Morton barn and I have 60 acres to maneuver.

Years ago my Grandfather had a "walking tractor" this was a small tractor with two drive wheels and handle bars. You walked behind the tractor and drove it with the handle bars. You could attach a small plow, tiller, snow blade and other attachments to it.

I would think that a trailer ball on the front of one of these would be really handy spotting your trailer.

Most policies are a result of an all or none policy. Like if Jim's nice new 20 ft Ranger looks great in the driveway and is not an eyesore, but yet across the street is Joe's 16 ft beat up junker tin rig with flat tires, full of water, used once every 3 years, and on display for all the world to see....you can't tell Joe to hide or move his boat unless you tell Jim the same thing. Same goes for RVs.

Luckily my HOA has no rules against boats or RVs as long as they are parked on a hard and durable surface.

Again, it goes back to the "all or none" issue. If the HOA allows this one sign, then they would have to allow any and all signs, which could be anything from a KKK rally sign to a sign praising the terrorists of 911. Just because this one particular sign is a nice one does not exempt it from the rules.

They should not and will not win their case.

Yea, a HOA sounds pretty **** good right about now.

When I moved in 20 years ago, it was a great neighborhood. With the slowing economy and a more "affordable home" my neighborhood and my PROPERTY values have gone to hell.

Like it or not......the riff raff will cost me 30% when I try to sell...........

Just what law did the HOA violate that they should get fined?

Without knowing the details of the HOA agreement they signed, I can't really say, but if what they say is true about other signs being present, and if the owners of those other signs have not gotten similar notices, they have may a case. It's called "selective enforcement." You can't enforce a rule like that just part of the time, it's all or nothing (as Art mentioned).
