Not to sound to arrogant, but KVD has as much fishing IQ as I do, NO DOUBT!! And if I had about 500 times more then I can say that I ALMOST have as good of a fishing IQ as him.I think what really sets KVD apart from Rick Clunn, is that he is the total package. He is a phenomenal fisherman, but he is also a media gold mine. Rick Clunn was and is always awkward in front of a camera, but KVD has the "it" factor when doing fishing shows or making commercials for his lures. I woudl kill for his fishing IQ
Aaron Martins........ 2nd place AGAIN!!!!! not to mention they were fishing the same area's
That was my favorite part. Never like Aaron and 2nd place for the 4th time in the Classic has to eat at him. If he would just stop crying when "somebody is on HIS spot", he would not present himself in such a bad light. Like somebody else said on here, never stopped at my favorite fishing hole or any other for that matter on any lake and saw signs stating ownership of spots. If you show up to fish a spot and another boat is sitting there, THEY own it until THEY decide to leave. Temporary ownership, with TEMPORARY being the keyword
If you guys watched the weigh-in on bassmaster.com you would know that Martens did not whine about fishing the same areas as those other guys, or them taking fish away from him. That was to my surprise, because he usually whines like a little baby.....maybe the difference was that the others fishing around him were pro's and not locals??? Heck, him and Vandam were fishing within spitting distance much of the tx. That has to hurt!
I guess Byron Velvick was a local at Lake Falcon a couple of years ago when Elias set the record? I don't see the difference whether a "local" is sitting on a spot or a "pro" when Aaron gets there. The one tourney I remember when he was griping about the locals, they were sitting there when he showed up. He sat there whining and crying that they were sitting on top of his fish, that it was his best spot, finally asked them when they were planning on leaving and they replied they were prefishing for their own tourney. Whether a local guy is fishing a local tourney or a pro is fishing an elite series tourney or KVD is fishing the Classic or father and son are fun fishing, if they are there when Aaron shows up then go to another spot and shut your mouth. Good to hear he did not cry and whine at the Classic, maybe he is changing maybe not, only time will tell. My bet is, if any other pro was fishing within spitting distance of him they would have taken some lip service. What has Aaron won, 2 or 3 tournaments in the past 6-7 years? Hard to give some lip service to Van Dam with this kind of record not to mention flat out pissing off the fishing fans and community with trying to bad mouth KING KONG.If you guys watched the weigh-in on bassmaster.com you would know that Martens did not whine about fishing the same areas as those other guys, or them taking fish away from him. KVD and Martens are actually pretty good friends. They have evenb roomed together a few times in the past.
I was not saying that there is/was a difference between a local or a pro being around him. What I said was that there was an obvious difference in the way he treated them. Rook and Remitz were in the same area also and he didn't seem to be bothered by them either. I was just surprised at how "grown-up" he acted all throughout the tourney given his track record. I guess you just have to disagree with me because I am an IU fan!!!!I guess Byron Velvick was a local at Lake Falcon a couple of years ago when Elias set the record? Nothing to do with UK or IU!!!!! "maybe the difference was that the others fishing around him were pro's and not locals" sure does sound like Aaron treats pro's different than local's to me. Just saying he has a HISTORY of treating both pro's and local's the same as the camera has proven on more than one occasion. You are correct in that we will agree to disagree. If you guys watched the weigh-in on bassmaster.com you would know that Martens did not whine about fishing the same areas as those other guys, or them taking fish away from him. Two things shock me about this thread
1) that KVD won again and by such a big margin
2) how crappy coverage and press for this event was last weekend. I googled the bassmaster 2 times and got nothing that indcated that it was on last weekend. I looked briefly at ESPN schedules Sunday morning and saw nothing.
I thought the bassmaster had to be this weekend. Maybe Versus will pick up the classic and give us some real coverage. Maybe some other network has, please tell if this was somewhere besides ESPN

ESPN really had excellent coverage of the Classic this year. If you tuned in Sat or Sun to watch you was a WEEK EARLY. The only thing worse than the last couple of years coverage of the Classic by ESPN is THIS YEARS COVERAGE, which was none at all. Check the listings but I saw where I think they are showing Day 1 coverage on Sat and Day 2 and Day 3 on Sunday but never saw anything about Day 4 coverage. It would be nice to see Versus, The Outdoor Channel or some other channel that actually cares about Hunting or Fishing to pickup the Classic and Elite Series events.
First....The Classic only has three days of fishing. Secondly, BASS not ESPN dictated that the coverage be one week late. Broadcasting fishing is much more difficult than other sports because there are 50 competitors in 50 different places...we'll get much better coverage when they have time to put everything together so that we can see how things unfolded. Does it **** we have to wait....yes....does everyone already know who won.....yes....but the tv coverage will be better.ESPN really had excellent coverage of the Classic this year. You are RIGHT, the Classic is only 3 days, call it temporary insanity for thinking it was like the rest of the tourneys. But you can't tell me that we have 50 anglers starting and fishing the first 2 days and then 25 on the last day that we can't have 10-12 cameras following the top anglers around with some coverage. I am not necessarily saying the entire thing needs to be shown live but the final weigh-in of the top fellas after Day 2 would have been nice. We can have cameras all over a golf course, nascar race, hanging from the speakers at Rupp, baseball and football stadiums, and other regular season events but we can't get 10 to cover the "Classic". A couple of years ago ESPN had the Classic on the Day it was fished. I remember watching Day 1 and Day 2 a couple of hours tape delayed but the final Day was several hours long as they brought in the top 6 or so and showed the weigh in live plus other fishing that took place throughout the day. That coverage was bashed on here by MANY and it was wished then that somebody who actually cared about fishing would take over the series and give it the just due. I did not think they could make it worse but they did. Show the coverage a couple of hours after the weigh in at least not 168 hours after.
Before somebody says, "Well you have 50 to start where do you put the 10 cameras?". 50 to start but realistically how many of them have a shot at winning, 15 or 20, start with having the camera on them and adjust from there. Surely guys like KVD, Skeet, Ike, Klein, Duckett, Evers, Swindle etc would be picks to start and if any of them are not on fish then move the camera boat to another angler during the day. Day 2, pretty easy, look at the leaderboard after Day 1 and adjust, Day 3 with 10 cameras out of 25 fisherman you have 40% of the field covered and surely you have the eventual champion covered. I am not nor ever will be in tv production, but we can put cameras on every single nut and bolt of a nascar, have in car cameras, rear bumper camers, front bumper camers, cameras in the grass showing the asphalt view, cameras in pit boxes, crew chiefs, cameras on the commentators, 2 different "Hot Cameras" debut at Daytona showed the thermal temp of the inside of the race car and temp of tires on the cars, plus who knows how many other camers. No way am I saying the Bassmaster Classic is even in the same league as the Daytona 500 but if we can have a 100+ cameras (who knows the real number) covering the "Bassmaster Classic of Nascar" and show it LIVE, then we could get 10 to cover the Bassmaster Classic and show same day coverage even it tape delayed a couple of hours. Just me, but knowing the outcome just does not make it a MUST SEE TV for me. Sort of like DVR'ing a football or basketball game that you can't see and you hear the final score before seeing the game, just not the same.
