Re: Need a new spinning reel

head out to Bass Pro during their Spring Sale. take a working reel and trade in for a discount towards a new reel. The Pro Qualifyer would only be $40! And the Johnny Morris $65.

Re: Need a new spinning reel

I would take a look at a Pfleuger president and spend the rest on other gear. Shimano has some offerings in that range (Symetre is $100 I think?), but up until you ht the Stradic and above I think the Pfleuger reels are better, especially bang for your buck. You could even look into the higher pfleuger reels, believe they have a magnesium reel around $100 (Supreme Mg/XT).

I've just been happy with the Pfleuger reels I own, don't think you'll see a huge increase in performance until you get to the Stradic...just my opinion though. Also been happy with Abu cardinals spinning reels so that may be another (cheap) alternative to look into.

I have a few of the Johnny Morris ones from bass pro. They do the trick and have a pretty good drag.

Re: Need a new spinning reel

I have Pfleuger reels on my spinning rods. I really like them. Someday I may try a Stradic; but for now I will stick with Pfleuger.

I think Dicks Sporting Goods moved to Shimano Sedona's; I don't know what those are like. Anyone try them yet? The are in the $80 or less range and there is a sale now.

Of course there is always some kind of sell at Dicks Sporting Goods.

Re: Need a new spinning reel

I have tried all brands of spinning reels and in my opinion, there is Shimano and then the rest. I have tried top of the line Stellas and they are overpriced but they are the best by far. The drag on the Daiwas are not as good neither are the Quantums. Go to eBay and look up Shimano in the size you want, you can usually get them at about a 25% discount on all Shimanos from Dicks, etc prices, have seen Symetres sell for $50-60 new.

Shimano Symetre. I will not buy another brand after owning this one!!! I'm sure there are just as good out there but for me the Symetre is all that..... IMHO

Re: Need a new spinning reel

I have 4 pflueger presidents two on the bps extreme rods and one on a Johnny Morris rod and one on the Abu Garcia veritas. The president is well worth it and if you keep them oiled and cleaned like anything else they will last forever.

I got a daiwa feugo combo 2 yrs ago at BPS for father day and love it. super lite and great for shakey heads and smaller jerk baits! Got the reel and 6'6" rod for $100. Was a great buy.

Re: Need a new spinning reel

if you just need the reel i think waiting for the sale on the JM bass pro reel is the way to go. the The Pro Q is not a good reel IMO. I have both and the Johnny is way worth it I payed 259 for the combo like 2 years ago.
my wife actually fishes with the pflueger president and loves it. I have used it a few times and it feels really good. Untill the 25th the cabin fever sale at BPS is still going on. they have the carbon light rod with the pflueger president combo for 99-119. im going down tommrow to pick me up two. just the rod it worth it IMO.
