    NCAA Inconsistencies continue

Jim Calhoun is found guilty by the NCAA of major recruiting violations so they do the LOGICAL thing and suspend him for the first 3 Big East regular season games of NEXT YEAR. What is next a bunch of college football players receiving money and other benefits from a tattoo parlor only to be suspended 5 games NEXT YEAR BUT ALLOWED TO PLAY IN A BCS BOWL THIS YEAR. Maybe one college freshman gets to pay back money he received and sits out a few games at Kansas but another gets the death penalty at UK. Who is running the Mickey Mouse club, AKA NCAA, Bert Ernie or Big Bird?

It may take a couple months but I think we will see if they are consistant when they meet with UT over there violations. The kicker will be how hard they get hit because of "misleading NCAA investigators". I am a die hard UT fan, but he was wrong and now must face the music. He is a great coach but what in the world was he thinking?? Did he think that no one would find out?? As good of a coach as he is I am surprised that the university is standing by him. I also think that it was crazy that the SEC suspended him, that is the job of the NCAA.

UT is also in trouble with the Football and Baseball team. I have heard of "Lack of Institutional Control" when SMU and some others got the Death Penalty but when does the entire athletic program take it on the chin. UT should put Pat Summit as Lady Vol's Head Coach / Athletic Director and there will NEVER be any future problems.

The baseball team was investagated but not mentioned in todays letter to UT, thats a good thing. The football team, I think is looking at some real minor stuff.(Lane Kiffin got his own letter from the NCAA and said ealier that his legal counsel had advised him to not comment. Hope they stick him good!!!) Bruce Pearl is one of the best coaches around, but he has made his bed and now he's got to lay in it.

Does anybody else see the Irony of Pearl's problems with the NCAA. If you don't no the story, here are a couple of links, but bascially he went to the NCAA with information about Illinois illegally recruiting a player. All of his allegations were proven false, he made it all up. Now he is the one in hot water.

Here is what he wrote to the NCAA: http://underscorebleach.net/jotsheet...ncaa_memo.html

I see Bruce Pearl losing his job over this when it is all said and done. Then Pat Summit can be the Men's Head Coach, Lady's Head Coach and Athletic Director at the same time.

ESPN had an interview with Coach K and Bobby Knight tonight and Knight said that there was so much "cheating" going on in College Basketball today. Said coaches and boosters are doing stuff under the table and behind the backs of the University and NCAA. Then it was said by one of the host of Sportscenter that of the 66 Universities in the Big 6 conferences, that only Penn State and Stanford had NEVER received any kind of infractions in their basketball programs. Only 2 CLEAN programs out of 66.

I totally agree with that statement that all programs cheat. It's just that when your caught you seem like the only one. Too much money and pride at stake in college bball.
Hey I wonder will we ever see a woman coaching mens ball??? I think it would work and summit has the demeanor.

I doubt you will ever see it. Pat certainly would have been successful, especially several years ago, when she was a bit younger. She still has the fire but it has dwindled a bit. You hear of the best lb. per lb. fighter, if you had the best gender vs. gender coach in college basketball, my bet is John Wooden, Coach K and Pat Summit would be the only 3 in the discussion. Summit has somewhere around 9 National Titles, almost 1100 victories, never a losing season, I don't remember any recruiting violations or other NCAA infractions and flat out a Class Act. I saw a list somewhere a while back where they ranked the top coaches of all time, all sports, professional and amateur and she was just outside the top 10 and the only woman on the list. If there is/was a woman to coach a mens college basketball program, then she is it. If she failed at it then you might as well consider this experiment dead and not to be revisited.

Speaking of John Wooden: I was not old enough to remember the 12 year run he had when he won all of his titles so I did some research. Overall 27 year coaching record at UCLA, 620-147, he goes 335-22 during the 12 stretch with 10 titles, this leaves him 285-125 or around .700 winning percentage for the first 15 years of his career, good coach but certainly not the best coach EVER in any sport by all means the first 15 years. No titles in 15 years and then when Kareem, Walton, Gail Goodrich, Henry Bibby, Jamaal Wilkes, and such come along back to back to back you get a dynasty for 12 years. Pat Summit has 8 titles over a 21 year stretch and with UCONN emerging the past 10 years, is going head and head with the current Dynasty in Lady's basketball. Wooden did not have any "UCONN Women's Team Dynasty or such" to battle during the 12 stretch. Just my opinion, but I have always thought John Wooden was a bit over-rated as an ALL TIME coaching great. Absolutely GREAT for that 12 years but before that just average.
