That's fine and dandy for right now...but wait until the gas tax is repealed and we're all assessed a highway usage fee based on the miles we drive instead of the gallons of gas or diesel we use.
Higher miles per gallon has caused a large reduction in the amount of available funds to fix our bridges, highways, etc.
The guy with the electric car who is taking advantage of not paying any highway taxes at all will eventually be dealt with. He's short-changing the government by not buying fuel.
Along those same lines, it wouldn't surprise me if trailers were part of the highway usage fee also. Won't it be fun paying for the miles our boat trailers travel on the highway too?
