50 fishermen on Day 1. Pick 10 to have camera boats following them to start Day 1. Who cares how you pick the 10, random draw, peoples choice by vote, hell have a panel of respected people in the industry pick the 10 who they think will do well in the tourney, it does no matter. You now have 10 pros followed by 10 camera boats. We already have 50 spotters in each boat. Give each one of them a Cell Phone. I you luck out and happen to get the 10 guys that are killing the fish, so be it. If some of the 10 are not on fish the have the spotters of the other 40 boats call in with who is on fish. Move the cameras off the original 10 that are not catching them to whomever is if it is feasible geographically. Day 2, move the camera boats to the top 10 to start and adjust if necessary, Day 3 same thing. Seems to me, it would take 10 boats, 10 camera men, 10 cameras to cover 20% of the field to start and 40% of the field covered on the final day. 10 boats, 10 cameramen, 10 cameras seems all you need for LIVE coverage of a few fellas catching fish.

I think that is the way it was done. to get the show we got to watch this weekend BUT you FAIL to think about it just because you have a camera doesn't mean squat!!! You have to have a satcom unit to broadcast it from the location. AND THAT WON"T happen on the scale it would take for a tournament.... ALL you guys who want this just don't realize what it takes to broadcast LIVE . Can you imagine the guys running to venice , by the time the camera satcom (if it survived the ride) was dailed in ) the fishermen would be leaving. Some of them only fished 45 minutes !!!!! And as for the cell phone some of them where 120 miles apart yea call and come on over , they would meet each other on the return trip.

You would make a good politician just say it and it happens . No thought involved That is why it hasn't happened before and besides what network would tie up 8 hrs of air time for three straight days

ok 50 helicopters But what about the issue of tieing up 8 hrs a day for three days . Not going to happen...

Walker, you are comparing apples to oranges. The largest tracks Nascar runs on are 1 1/2 miles and that is in a circle. Do you realize how many helicpoters it would take to cover the Louisiana Delta?

Here is the way I would like to see the Classic handled. It is probably the most feasible way. First, keep in mind you are not going to see the actual fishing as it goes on live. The technology is there but the affordability of it is not. B.A.S.S. would lose money, a lot of money, trying to do it live. I would like to see a preview show an hour long, telling what has been going on out on the water, show a few clips of the leaders fishing and any other perinient info. Put it on an hour before the final day weigh in. Then show the final day weigh in or at least the super six weigh in live. This would only work on the final day. If any of you have been to the Classic you already know, but those who haven't I will tell you that the weigh in last for at least 2 hours. There is so much pomp and circumstance and then the emcee has to talk with each angler for a while before the fish are weighed and after. After a while you are just begging for them to get on with it.

Just one. Its line of sight. One helicopter in the air can send signals hundreds of miles. regardless... i am with you guys. I was simply trying to drive the point home that this will never be a live event until some sponsor ponies up an a$$ load of money to pay for it. It is way to cost prohibitive based on current sponsorship.

Im curious what the TV ratings were like for the Classic this weekend...

I'm not a tournament guy but I like watching the weigh-in's, etc...I don't even keep up with Pro's at all. But I did DVR the classic when it aired this weekend. Man I gotta hand it to those guys, all of them really, Pro's and the media coverage alike, what a show! I know there's a bunch of talking and goofiness associated with it (the show aspect of it), but it's a good show, especially for kids to watch. I could easily see kids getting hyped up about it if they watched it, which is a good thing in my opinion.

I haven't made it all the way through the recordings yet but as far as the Pro's are concerned....I was sort of surprised to see several boats all fishing in what looked to be one small area, just sitting there, casting to the middle, casting to open water. It was a stump bed on a flat...sure there were fish caught there but to me it sort of reminded me of how it gets sometimes down at the falls in Louisville. I guess too though that about half of those boats were being used as camera boats.

The other thing that made me think too was some of those guys running two to three hours just to be able to fish for one hour and turn right around and hopefully make it back in time. Can you imagine being in the same tournament with KVD, running two to three hours and fishing for one hour? Meanwhile, KVD stays close to the launch site and keeps slinging that spinnerbait the entire day? KVD's lure is in the water for 7+ hours while you have your's in the water for 1 hour! I know why those guys ran as far as they did, but still.

If you recorded the final day on Sunday night, be prepared to miss the final weigh in. There was Drag racing that took about 15- 20 minutes into the beginning of it. That made me madder than waiting a week to see it. They put it on at 10pm then have Drag Racing in the first 15 minutes or so, so it runs over. Luckily it is on again this weekend, so I am going to try to record it again. This time I extended the end recording time by an hour, I'm not missing it this time.

The way the tourney was fished, you could have covered them with a hand held camrecorder. Looks to me you needed 2 cameras, Venice and the Pond that KVD and the rest were fishing. Can anyone name one sport where their Super Bowl is broadcast a week late? Hell, put them on a lake with no limits for Day 1 and 2 then move them to an UNDISCLOSED location small enough for 12 anglers to fish Day 3 and add a Day 4. make the lake small enough that you don't have 200 miles of water to fish and can cover it by a few cameras to get live coverage. I can run my life from my cell phone from paying bills, to ordering food, to the internet, to whatever and somebody somewhere can't figure out how to take the biggest event in Bass Fishing and make it TV friendly.

Elnut I agree it should be more TV Friendly but...... as I've read all these posts the one thing that popped into my head was - No other sport ie football, baseball, hockey nascar etc lasts for 10 hours and is scattered around so much. So, I'm afraid if we got coverage like we wanted "live" it would resemble grass growing or paint drying, could you imagine the Pittsburg classic? YUCK, EWE....... But a week late? NO!!! late that night like they used too or next day cool, yet I'm afraid that there would still be griping cause people would know who won already. I was a huge fan of the camera in the boat "BassCam" but whew at times BORING, and I am a FANATIC!!!! I'm just afraid we would get less in order to get more quicker, yet I agree again a week is just sad... IMHO
