Nah. Just take a picture of her and turn her loose. Fish on the wall just collect dust. You can always take the measurements and make a replica.

Just throw rattletraps in and around the grass and you will do fine.

Twise for you an 8 pounder may not be a trophy, but that would be the biggest fish I've ever caught. The replicas I think look pretty bad. I'm all about catch and release but one of that size or larger is going in my office.

Don't get me wrong - 8 lbs is a big fish! My personal best is 6-5. I just fear having everybody rush out and mount the biggest bass they catch...I know there have been a few posts on this forum about keeping bass vs. releasing them (and I DON'T want to open that can of worms again!) but even the locals down there are fed up with people catching a "trophy" bass and taking it out of the lake. Believe it or not, Guntersville is on a decline in regards to the "quality" of bass fishing. Many of the guides down there are really concerned about the status of the lake.

Absolutely....you just don't catch the number of 8-10 pound fish down there anymore. To many out of staters going down and keeping fish. Throw them back and let them reproduce. I look forward to my trip down there every year, but I turn my fish loose even if it would be 10 pounds. i'll take a few pics and watch her swim away.

Be sure to fish main river channel, south saulty bridge working around channel going under bridge, and bridge around goose pond colony. Always produce for me when I go that time of year.

    Re: Guntersville mid march?

I released my 12 pounder from FL, and to be honest I am disapointed with the replica mount, and if I ever get the chance to hold one that big again i'm going to keep it. those big fish from FL,TX, and CA are very common and the genetics are there to help replinish any losses. However, at Guntersville and Ky lake The genetics are there but the growing season is not so it just depends on what body of water you are on as to whether or not I could justify keeping one or letting it go...and another side to this is the fact that if you catch a 8,9 10 pounder in AL or KY the fish is probably very old and doesn't spawn as well as she used to, so removing that fish may not be a problem. Of course I'm a geologist not a biologist.

If catch 50 10 pound bass in a lifetime I'm only keeping one. I believe strongly in catch and release, but I'm going to have to be greedy one time. Chances are I probably won't have to make that decision.

Did anybody at the Louisville boat show see that replica of a 14 pound however many ounce replica from guntersville. Not to slam the art work but I would rather realease the fish and also say no to the replica. Like a previous post said that big fish will probably not be caught again, and truth be knownmight be sterile.

    Re: Guntersville mid march?

Guntersville in March? All I can say is I'm jealous of the person who gets to go!

As for dead things on the wall verses replica....heck, I've got a striper and a smallmouth on the wall...one is from Cumberland River the other is from our sacred Dale Hollow. I'll never put another striper on the wall and I will most likely never put another smallmouth on the wall....it would have to be awfully big for me to do so (8 lbs plus). The only species of fish I still want to put on the wall is a Cumberland River Trout...and once again I will get the real deal, no replica's for me. This is it for me...I just want fish on my wall that represent the places I was raised and the places I love to be.

Fish are just like people in that they grow different sizes, some are big, some are small, some are short and fat, they have different life expectancy's, etc....aint no gaurantee's every fish is going to grow up to be the next world or state record. As long as every one's honest in their catching there is nothing wrong with keeping fish just so long as everyone follows the reg's.
