The gun weighs 9 pounds. I have one and glade I do. My dad had one in Korea and said it was the best gun he ever shot. A bit heavy though. It is all a matter of opinion I guess. Can always argue what gun is best at a given time, but this one aint about the gun boys.
Yeah, it's a historical piece, lent to allies, blah, blah, blah. They have been all over the collector market forever...okay.
The point is that the government has no grounds whatsoever for blocking the import of these and acquisition by American citizens. There is no grounds. "Fall into the wrong hands and used in a crime" = WTF????
I would love to see the statistics on how many M1 Garands have been used in crime in the United States. You don't see many drug deals go bad by way of Raul Lopez pulling an M1 Garand out from under his coat and dropping a narc....I have a hard time picturing an Escalade speeding down an LA neighborhood with an M1 hanging out the window....and don't recall ever seeing video surveillance footage from an armed robbery on the news where the masked dude was sporting an M1 Garand.
Not recently, at least. I know that Malcolm X and the Black Panthers used to walk around with M1's back in the day...but that was more about making a statement. At least they were for gun rights.
Give me a break. No grounds whatsoever. These should be allowed back into the US for sale to collectors, or anybody who wants to have one for whatever reason. Period. End of story.
