Os so very true...the only blemish on my lower unit came from that road bed. The guy who I bought my boat from forgot to trim up idling over it and knocked a chuck out of the skeg about the size of your finger nail. I know a guy who was going to run to the right going up stream. When he got done his four blade prop was a three blade prop.

When the lake is a few feet below summer pool a lot of people get scary close to the big stump row just above the bridge. The one that scares me the most is the rock 8 ft tall in 10 ft of water at summer pool way up stream. Plus the 6ft tall rock in 7 ft of water. Both lay just one boat length to the right of center channel.

Go now (well not now since it rained but now in a "normal" year) and you can visually see (the hazards are high and dry) stuff that can wreck your lower unit.

Don't go on plane on parts of the lake you are unfamiliar with, especially the upper end.

Browns ford is a good ramp with good parking (great parking if you park in the spots going up from the ramp), good lighting, and bathrooms.

    Re: barren river lake ramp?

As others have stated it is VERY dangerous up on that end of the lake.

The old bridge in the bend just down river from the ramp has sunk many a boat over the years, not to mention the lower units it has ruined.

When you get above the ramp it is not very safe at any level unless you know the river up there. I live near there and I wouldn't take a bass rig up there and I have boated and walked it all the way from there to KY-100 bridge and beyond over the years. It changes some every year due to the current. Large logs get caught up on things just under the surface and make it a gamble at best.

Do as you wish but make sure your insurance is paid up and wear your life jacket at ALL times.
