    Kentucky Lake - Fenton/Kenlake Area

Does anyone know of some nice fishing spots in the Fenton/Kenlake area? We are fishing there soon and I have no clue about anything on Kentucky Lake. I realize no one will give up a honey hole, but any advice would be appreciated. Maybe what types of things to look for on sonar or features in the water that seem better than others. Of course if you want to give me GPS Coordinates feel free.

When are you going? I would read Daves report and go from there. You can put in at Fenton and head north and fish the bays on the LBL side. I would say primary and secondary points right now. Maybe a jerk bait, slow fished crankbait, shakey heads, jigs, and maybe c-rigs. Fish will be starting to head to their spawning areas. The end of the month is a prime time to catch a trophy.

Look for channel banks in the first 1/3 to 1/2 of each bay. Fish the deepest points. I like a tube this time of year. Throw Green Pumpkin or Pumpkinseed if clear and Black/Red it murky. Move around alot until you find the fish....

I think Vickers is supposed to be a good bay.

I think the mistake I've made is to get one of those Hotspot Maps. I have looked at it and almost have so much input I can't get through it. I agree that Dave Stewart is an excellent resource for the lakes - if not fishing in general. I keep meaning to take his class on how to eliminate water. I appreciate the information. Biggest issue I'm having is the boat. It has a 40 HP motor and I am trying to find areas where I don't have to make long runs on the water. That's why I am trying to stick to the general area. I've read that gravel covered points and steep banks are fair right now. Trying to find them on my depth finder (Lowrance Mark 5x Pro) might be a challenge.

You must watch the weather too. If you have cold nights the fish will pull back. If the overnite lows, ie 50 degrees and forecast sunny the next day, then try slow rolling spinnerbaits.

Ledbetter is a good creek too(also has a ramp). Might trailer down to Blood River. I mentioned Vickers earlier because it is close to Fenton, but prefer the western side for Largemouth.

With that small of boat, you better watch the wind. You might get to your spot, but might not get home.

Sugar Bay is a good place to put in if the wind is bad. I have put in there several times in my 18.5' when fishing that side of the lake.

Best map for any lake and especially Ky and Barkley is the Atlantic Mapping System Map. Shows the channels, ledges and other stuff much better than Hot Spots. As far as Ky Lake goes, there are no fish in the lake. Your better bet would be to hit Guist Creek in Shelbyville.

Just kidding, Ky Lake in March/April, pretty much pick a bay with water in it and you will catch fish. Some bays are better than others from day to day but they all will hold fish.

Another great thing about ky lake is the abundance of free boat ramps. I have a 17 ft nitro with a 90 hp and have trailered to 3 or 4 ramps in a day depending on the weather and wind. Some of my better days have come fishing within a mile or so of the ramp I trailered to. When the wind is howling this may be an option for you. Points and lead in banks should hold some fish. good luck!

You said you did not want to make long runs due to your motor size. Even the short runs between the bays can be deadly. The wind is no joke at Ky Lake. NNW or SSE winds are horrible and you may not think nothing of a 15mph wind on your home waters but get one coming from these directions in particular and you can get swamped very easily. The water temps are no where near comfortable and if you go in it could be deadly.

Your probably better off picking a good proven bay and fishing it all and figuring where the fish are (channel banks, points, flats towards main lake, ect).

I am gonna second the recommendation for blood river over fenton. You can fish all week, catching quality fish, and never leave blood river. There are a number of ramps in Blood river. We use Irvin Cobb when we are down that way, but there is another free ramp that is litterally a gravel bank people back down on the other side of the creek from Irvin Cobb. Most people simply leave their trailers in the water while they fish from over there. I like the points along the north edge of blood river all teh way to the mouth. And when the winds are howling down the main lake, blood river doesnt get quite as rough.
