Why does everyone think the lake has to be 50 degrees, clear and stable to catch bass

My next door neighbor came home last night from a lake in indiana-wouldnt tell me where with 6 bass over 15 inces--biggest 5 lb. Caught on a blk/blue hair jig with a watermelon/red plastic trailer.

Lake or pond??? Ponds are better fishing right now....smaller=warmer!
