Rules are rules indeed. My gut tells me that Tressel is an ok guy. I'm sure we all do things (myself included) that are questionable by some folks' standards. In fact you might even get arrested if caught. But the good that you do in life FAR OUTWEIGHS the bad choices/decisions. I look myself in the mirror and know that I'm an ok dude, I'm sure sweater vest does the same. Tressel will have plenty left in his "moral savings account", even after this major withdrawal.

    My opinion.

I think every major college basketball and football program CHEATS, to what degree is the question. Maybe the kids did not know that selling their things for money and tattoos was against the rules or not. But Tressel ABSOLUTELY knew it was against the rules and sat on it for 8 months until it came out and even then never came clean. He sat on it for another 3 months and now he got busted. He had almost a year to come clean and tell the truth but chose not to. College Sports is all about wins and losses, BOTTOM LINE. Not about graduation rates and helping teenagers become model citizens while receiving an education. Like I have said before and will say again, they are ATHLETES that happen to be STUDENTS. The term "Student Athlete" is a myth. There will be a real Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy and Easter Bunny before there are real Studen Athletes playing big time college sports. If Tressel will sit on an email that would possibly suspend his starting QB plus 4 other major players on his team, what other smaller infraction would he sit on. If he won't report this what else won't he report?

I am neither an Ohio State lover or hater. That being said, the 375 violations include all sports, not just football, since 2000. They also have 36 sponsored athletics teams, the most in the nation. In comparison, Florida has 17 teams and committed 112 violations; Oklahoma had 224 violations, they also have 17 teams. If you look at them proportionally, Oklahoma is worse than Ohio State in a huge way.

Re: OSU Buckeyes in HOT water...

At least we now know who is running The Ohio State University

Ohio State president Gordon Gee said he and Tressel had discussed the violation at Gee's house for 3 hours one night. Gee also said he had not considered dismissing the Buckeyes coach. "No, are you kidding?" he said with a laugh. "Let me be very clear. I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."

President Jim Tressel, who happens to coach the football team, is running the University. Gordon Gee is a dork that wears a bow tie and sits in an office with the nameplate President on the door. This is the same Gordon Gee that said TCU should not be considered for the BCS football championship. The same TCU team that took Co-Champion of the Big Ten Wisconsin to the woodshed in the Rose Bowl. Gee suspends Tressel for 2 scrimages against Akron and Toledo, are you serious?

The NCAA needs to grow some Cojones and suspend him for the season. Dez Bryant lied about meeting Deon Sanders and got the axe for the whole season a couple of years ago. Bruce Pearl and Jim Tressel need to get a whole season as well. My bet is Pearl gets fired from UT before he is suspended by the NCAA but OSU has already stated where they stand with Tressel. When a President says that firing Tressel never crossed his mind, says a lot. Way too much $$$$$$$ being brought in to OSU by the football team. Way too many victories against Michigan by the football team. Tressel should go but he won't.

I agree with Elwood. Money is what makes the world go round and in the world of sports it's even more important. Schools are buying their way into position for championships and once your a huge success and you can't be nailed by the NCAA your safe.
On the other hand how would he look in Wildcat Blue??? he and Calipari would be the Teflon Dons of the NCAA working together!!! What a sight. Hahahaha...Just kiddin boys

And to think Ohio States AD was aware of the violations as well,he is currently the NCAA Selection Committee Chairperson for the basketball tourney.

Seems to me that Ohio State University is basically thumbing their nose at the NCAA and it's rules. Their stance appears to me to be "Yeah he did it, we don't care, the rule is dumb, we stand by our guy". This could turn out to be a very dangerous move on their part we'll see what the NCAA has to do about it.

I work at a hospital, and I pretty much view the NCAA like the JCAHO that does the accreditation (sp?) for the majority of hospitals. They are a regulatory agency with a ton of rules and an abundance of gray area. The sole purpose is to cite folks and enforce their regulations so they keep their jobs and the money rolling in. I don't see the NCAA complaining about the millions made in jersey sales for Terrelle Pryor but the moment he sells something that was given to him, now his own possession, for a discount on a tattoo - well now we've got major problems (at this point just forget how retarded it is to see a Big10 championship ring for a discounted tattoo).

I could literally report dozens of infractions I see on a daily basis but I don't - because I don't want the "S"storm that ultimately would follow after reporting something that in the grand scheme of things is trivial.

Seems to me that Tressel's checkbook is a bit fatter than Calipari's. If this was ANY other coach in the Big 10, they would have been canned on the spot. Other than Joe Paterno and Nick Saban you probably could not name 10 coaches in the country that would not have been ran out of town on the first thing smoking. Add basketball to the list and Roy Williams, Coach K and you still could not name 10 other coaches. Bottom line is Tressel OWNS Michigan and beats them like a drum. Beat Michigan 9 times since 2001, which is second in Buckeye history to Woody Hayes in the number of victories over Michigan. Consistently in the top 10, BCS bowls and MILLIONS of dollars coming into the university. If the NCAA does not suspend him for at least the 5 games that the players are suspended, they will continue to show the inconsistent behavior that they are known for. Dez Bryant meets with Deon Sanders, then lied about it, and was suspended for the whole season. Tressel knew about it, covered it up for 8 months, then lied about knowing about it, then gets his hand caught in the cookie jar and gives some lame excuse of protecting the players and blah blah blah. Gordon Gee, Gordy with the bow tie, is such a lame excuse of a President. What qualifications do you need to hold this position? Whatever they are, NO BACKBONE and NO COJONES are defineately 1 and 2 on the list

Re: OSU Buckeyes in HOT water...

It is reported in Ohio State's letter to the NCAA that they "CONSIDERED" suspending Tressel for all of the spring practices and spring games as well. OSU is just trying to cover they butts in hopes the NCAA won't do the right thing which is send him packing for a year long suspension.
